It's a good quote, though not actually true. Perhaps back when wars resulted in the complete annihilation or assimilation of the opponent, it was a much more accurate statement.

Sorry for the drift in your thread, Gerrard. :)

Gerrard, I am one of those who is very cynical about books that come out on this subject. It's "the boy who cried wolf" scenario. Everyone has had a new angle or has uncovered new evidence or has a new perspective on known evidence. Eventually, nobody wants to spend their money on yet another "Hitler escaped" book. It's not personal. That's just a normal human response.

Having said that, I appreciate that you have made part of the book available for reading (link in post #58). When I have an opportunity to do so, I will read the excerpt provided. After that, I will decide if I am sufficiently intrigued to make an investment in your book.

    Regards,

    Tom

Well, the point of an open mind is not to accept anything that comes along. It is to listen to facts and reason and then come to conclusions. And coming to a conclusion does not mean one should stop thinking. It just means one makes a decision based on the evidence at hand. One must always be willing to look at new information. Unfortunately, it isn't always so easy to do.

I will definitely be reading this book......I have read many, many books on the subject of the third reich, everything from occult histories, contemporary histories, the rise and fall of the third reich comes to mind, escape theories, th newly published hitler book, from Russian sources etc etc etc.......I don't think this is a totally out there theory, with the russians and allies not wanting to loose face, Stalin went to his grave still unsure of hitlers fate, the secret burials in east Germany, the destroying of remains in the 70's....this is definitely not unexplored territory.......it is fascinating that hitler still casts a shadow over the 21st century, but as David Irwin once said "swastikas sell"..... If you don't want to read the book then don't, if you do, read it with an open mind, look at their research and decide for yourself.....as the writers have said, you can't just dismiss it out of hand without reading the book first.......can't wait tobsee it in a bookshop here".......by the way, next time you do go to a bookshop, count how many tomes there are on the third reich....they keep on coming and enquiring minds like mine will continue to read them

Reminds me of the books out there on jack the ripper.....another favourite subject of mine no matter what the theory.....somewhere in all the books ever written on these two characters the truth is there mingled among the web of theories.......reading all you can on a controversial subject will give you the knowledge to make an informed decision...like I said hope to see it here in australia soon......

By the way, this moniker hitler has as the " wickedest man in modern history" IMHO is overexagerated....I'm sure Stalin is equal to or at least a close second

Thanks for this , It'll be in Australia in November I understand, distributed by Capricornlink. I quite agree about Stalin and think Mao should be in there too, But the impact Hitler had on so many countries and peoples still puts him at No 1 B*****rd.

    All the best

I don't think one can "over-exaggerate" the wickedness of Hitler. Having said that, once you reach the level of nihilistic, murderous depravity that Hitler, Stalin, and Mao did, superlatives are almost meaningless.

True enough, QOTD. That's why history is important. It reminds us that, despite the progress we think we have made, we are not that far removed from barbarism and could easily regress if we are not careful.

    Gerrard,

I have not disappeared. I do have a life outside the forum, you know.

I notice the release of PGW has failed to make the mainstream media. 'Stern' Magazine, at least, managed to do that from the outset. Reports on PJW have been conspicuous by their absence. Should this tired old yarn ever gain any credibility, media reaction on the above mentioned scale would be the result.

The jury is already out for this one. , discharged long ago. Those that wish to stand about and flog a dead horse for a while longer, please form an orderly line at the end of this thread.....

Hi guys, first time poster. I'm a moderator on Not606 Portsmouth board. (Any Pompey fans welcome, we need the numbers as we are cornered/dug in, on all sides by our erstwhile neighbours to the west). Sorry if that's against house rules, admin dudes, but I'm going to plug your forum on Not 606 very soon indeed, so please forgive me if I've transgressed!

I digress. Greetings, Gerrard. I was reading about your book on Sky text, finally ending up as a member on here, as a result, and I have to say it looks fascinating. I'm going to buy it of course and when I'm finished I will return to give, for what it's worth, my humble honest opinion.

So to the doubters I say, at the very least your forum has one new member due to the publicity of Gerrard's book! This looks like a great site and the layout is very similar to Not606.

The widespread skepticism is to be expected. However, history is always unfolding and when there is new and/or additional evidence, it should be considered. To adopt the traditional view of Hitler's death, requires a mere adoption of the prevailing view though unsupported by any evidence. Though I've not completed the entire book, I must say that if the matter were placed before a jury with the rules of evidence at play that are agreed upon in the Western World, the authors of this book put forth the most compelling evidence, to date. Evidence of the alleged suicide is minuscule, at best. I want to give my government officials the benefit of the doubt, I do not adopt their assertions without sufficient evidence. Especially in light of repeated deceptions by the government. Deceptions to which I do not place a moral judgment. But deceptions, nonetheless. For example: President Clinton ordered an inquiry into accusations that the US gov had conducted tests of chemical and biological weapons on it's own citizens. Denied for decades, it was finally admitted. Many other examples could be given. "History is written by the victors." - Sir W. Churchill. Or to quote Reagan - "trust, but verified." Many events in history are simple "hushed" so as not to raise suspicion of the prevailing opinion. Viewing government with such unchallenged is repugnant to the Founders of America. Government was never intended to be given unfettered trust and authority. Most never know of events such as "Black Tom"; or, unrelated perhaos, the courage of Smedley Butler. I applaud the authors for their intellectual honesty and putting forth the evidence. Truth should always welcome challenges and criticism - as it will stand the test or time. Silence in the face of evil, is itself evil. If anyone has evidence that is contrary to any put forth by the authors, please put it up for discussion. I think they, as I, would welcome it. But naked criticism and insults are never tasteful refutations to evidence or conclusions. This is a very important event in history. If it is true, it requires questions that none of us cared to ever think about. But then again, the Administration knew of the impending attack on Pearl Harbor, but it was preposterous to be true. If the warnings had been heeded, history might look very different from our vantage point.

Interesting book will be getting it today purely because i have never seen an author debate his book on a forum before; also i am intrigued about the idea.

I am also like Pompey, the advertisement of this book led me to Google it and that has led me here to this vast forum that i did not know existed and i now have many many things to read.

Bought the book at Audible, and though I'm still in middle of listening to it, I have to say that the writers have done their homework, setting up the scene. The book is not just about Hitler, but it gives a good history lesson outside schoolbooks, too. For example, it is fascinating to hear how close-knit the U.S. and German industries were between WWI and WWII.

Sorry to stick my nose into your lovely forum just to say this, but reading this thread, I felt the guys deserved a thumbs-up

This is of course not evidential in any way, but the reason this book intrigues me is that suicide never fit in my image of Hitler. He never struck me as being desperately antisocial, like school killers that don't want to submit to authority, but more like an opportunistic, egoistic sociopath. Like Saddam. Had he been caught, I'm certain he would have trusted that he can find a way out. He was a vermin, not a spartan. A survivor, not a hero. So the story of a well planned escape route resonates with that.

Of course, the body of proof would have to be unanimous to make this scenario the new history. The case is similar to that of the Gospels: you've got a lot of eyewitness accounts that would be sufficient in criminal court, but the scale of things makes you ask for more.

Anyway, I'm certain this could have happened, and I never say never. But I don't think I'll take it for a fact before they find photos, matching DNA or something.

I have a real problem with this book after the first few pages. In the preface of the book we have the following statement. "There is absolutely no accepted forensic evidence of Martin Bormann's supposed death; in 1998 German officials claimed that a skeleton buried near the Reichstag matched the DNA of an elderly relative of Bormann's.... Bormann's family refused to accept the findings. "This is a deliberate distortion of the facts. In 1972 his supposed body was identified by dental and skeletal records. In 1998 it was conclusively identified by DNA testing to be Bormann using DNA matching to one of Bormann's elderly relatives. there was no doubt and there remains none. There was no controversy. Bormann's family refused to accept the body in 1972, not findings in 1998. If this is the quality of the research in this book don't bother buying it. The authors are trying to deceive the reader by not being upfront with the real facts. The book falls if Bormann died, which he did. This is tabloid journalism, don't buy the book.
