Holy Crap it's hot!

good news in Europe, they expect "normal weather as of Thursday. So we"ll take some of the American heat and give the rain back to the English.

 

They lied.

 

In my part of SE Texas we were almost a foot (12 inches) short of rain at the end of spring. It has only gotten worse in that reguard, but the temps are pretty close to normal.

 

around 76F here in Hawaii with cloudy skies and some cooling rain every once in a while. If you guys want to come over here to cool off, be my guest. Waikiki and Ala Moana is just a few minutes away.

 

50 miles on the bike today in the middle of the Siskiyou Mountains, clear and 65F this morn turned out to be nearly 100F as the tires started a slow melt down you can really tell over time as you ride a bike about this very strange and weird sensation, the Muscat was good at Foris winery and then back out in the gruel of the pavement the last 20 miles of hills back to the rigs, 12 crazy people . . . .

 

We had the 38C humidex last week, then mid-week dropped to 16, then back to mid 20s, with lots of rain. Last night my yard got hit with quarter to loonie sized hail. Have to see what damage that did to my apples which looked like they were going to be prolific this year, and my 39 tomato plants. Looks like high 20s for the weekend with humidex in low 30s. I want to know what happened to the dry heat we used to have in the Prairies!

 

After budding out and blossoming, I tried to smudge heat the apple trees...the three I have.......after gallons of fuel was used up and the freezes that continued I gave it up......very cold spring here in midwestern New Mexico near Zuni mountains. We have had a couple rainstorms with summer but not enough moisture to really wet the clay soils here----3" cracks form in the ground here and there (as the clay contracts in dryness)...farther east in East Mountains near Albuquerque my brother in law lost all his plastic rain gutters to the hail bombs that broke them to pieces. Our winds have reduced but we still get pretty good breezes which is unusual as well for our location at 7000 ft elevation. Guess he will have to install metal next time. In our area rain gutters are important as source of water for plants and flowers.
