This is/was at one time a simple school ID card for a young girl (age 7) from Latvia. Her name was Silvya Millere and she was born on the 10th of March 1932...She was in the 1st grade...the ID was issued on the 18th of October 1939 and expired on the 16th of January 1940. I can not read the name of the school that she attended or her classes. The ID was extended out the first time until the 15th of May 1940 and again to the 30th of September 1940. The class 'manager' or principal is the same on both extensions.

Now...the fun part...it is 100% clear to me that this document was original stamped by the school...you can see stamps under the fresher TR stamps. Why this 7 year old Latvian girl would be attached to the SiPo/SD Krakau District is beyond reason. The only schools that were being run by the RSD in this area would be the 'School for Scoundrels' in Bad Rabka...also a Police school as well. I see no reason for these stamping on this card...it just makes no sense to me. Why would this little girl be in a SD ghetto going to school...if she was a Jew her card would Identify her as such...this card does not so so.

My final conclusion is that someone has 'enhanced' this Latvian school ID. I am not an expert in such things but all my experience with things like this tell me that something is not right with this. If there is anything on the reverse that hasn't been shown yet it may help out a bit...either strengthening my opinion or perhaps helping it with possibly being original.

Again....this is my opinion...no need to throw shoes at me or go jumping off a bridge.

Neither Latvian, nor Jewish. it's a General Government travel pass for a school girl from Kreis Krakau (cracovia, Poland) , issued by the local Sicherheitsdienst, issued on October 18th 1939, renewed in January 1940, May 1940 and next renewal due in September 1940).

I have trouble to read the name, but the girl is 7 years old (she looks older on the picture) and the first name is Siloya (name = Millere ?)

This helps a lot...not the story but the reverse. After seeing this I think you have a pretty cool document...going to school in the middle of all of that crap going on in Krakau in 1940...just makes one shudder.

This was still overprinted at some point...you can clearly see the TR stampings over the top of the original stamps.

    Nice document OP....

You are right it says it was originally issued in Latvia and overprinted in poland.

I have reasons to think she never even went to Poland and that this is fake

In fact I believe it's a fake because:

1)I doubt a Latvian language I.D. card would have been issued in Poland
2)and I still believe this is the picture of a 12 year old, not seven.
3)I also think this card was enhanced to make it look better. From a start it was probably a civilian Latvian I.D. and the nice cancellations were probably added later.
it's just too incoherent and as Collector said why would a 7 year old girl ,who doesn't even look like one and who is not Jewish either need an SD approval to go to school.

What did the forger need to enhance this pic ? well two ink stamps, ( fakes are flooding the market nowadays, you can get them on ebay for 40 euros) a perforation machine, a rivet and a black and white picture . Put the picture on an original civilian card , like the ones you "ll find at ta flea market for one euro. Perforate the pic and add a rivet at the original place. Stamp the whole thing like hell (3 Swastikas on the same page will look much better than just one ) and there you go.

    Hey Skipper,

I am glad that we both ended up on the same page on this one...I had written up a whole long post about why I though this was bad...but I decided to just let it go. I do not want to be the guy that just comes on here and blasts things as being fake...but I let the items speak for themselves. Sometimes it seems easier to just 'play along' and let things go rather than debate and sometimes argue with someone...this time I took the low road and just let it go...thanks for chiming in and getting me back on track!

This card has been manipulated at some point in time...not a doubt in my mind. The SiPo/SD Krakau stampings were the major issue with me...besides the fact that you can clearly see that the TR stamps have been added over the top of the original stampings. There is just no reason that this document would exist in it's current state...if she needed the permission to go to school from the SD...she would have been Untermensch.

The fact that the document is Latvian with SiPo/SD Krakau stampings is enough to send this collector running for the hills. It is also clear that the girl in the picture is not 7...11-12 is more like it. Nothing adds up with this document...nothing.

I am sure that the OP will not accept this opinion...that is his right. But this document is not what he/she may think it is. As Sargent Joe Friday would have said on the 60's sitcom Dragnet...."Just the facts mamm"......

I dont know much about documents and i thought it looked a little funny just because how good of shape it was in. Its crazy though because the few other things i purchased with this were legit and he had some nice pieces.

Sorry we somewhat tempered your enthousiasm, msncml386, no harm intented here and I always believe that the truth is the best way to deal with such matters. We could have just ignored the question ,but I think you'll appreciate our honesty , at least I hope.

Is it just me, but this seems so sad as this would have been an interesting artifact had it been left in its origional form?

My opinion, too but Swastikas sell much better and some people don't hesitate to enhance some original pieces to give them a "better" look.
