    Hi,

I am trying to get military records for my Uncle. He served in WWI and I know this is a WWII forum, but I thought someone might have a suggestion on how to find enough info to fill out a "REQUEST PERTAINING TO MILITARY SERVICE" form. All I have is his name, SS#, date of birth and place of birth. I also have several pictures of him in his uniform wearing a helmet and spats holding a rifle with a bayonnet. I think he was in the Army, but I am not sure. Any help or suggestions where to look would be appreciated.

hi. if you look in the section called military service record & genealogical research look for a post by JCFalkenbergIII. it shows the address for the archive. bear in mind tho, they are busy with current vets, and only look for old records when they have time, so it might take quite a while for you to get anything back from them. hope this helps.

A belated welcome to the forum, John. You've gotten some good advice from gunbunny already so I don't have much to add. I would like to echo Sgt Potier's suggestion. If you have the ability to share the photo on the forum it would be very much appreciated by all the military nuts who reside here. It would also give us the opportunity to honor and salute his life and service to our country. :)

I tried to get info on my grandpa's dad that was in WWI. We had quite a bit of info and still were unable to get anything back. I was thinking the fire had something to do with it and they just didn't seem to keep the records back then as they did in WWII. Good luck
