I got excited when I saw the Battle of Hatten-Rittershoffen thread, and wanted to share what I know with others. However, in my excitement I forgot how much some of you dislike me, and signed up. Damn shame really since I have interviewed scores of men who participated in the Battle of H-R. My apologies.

May I ask what on earth you are talking about?

This is your first post, so who dislikes you?

Do some of the members here know you from another forum or am I missing something?

Welcome back, Jim, and post away.

Your knowledge and expertise were missed.

Thanks Dave, it's good to hear from you. Hope everything is going OK in your neck of the woods.

Dave and certain mods and admins already know something about me from my previous attempt to contribute to this forum, but I realize I should introduce myself to everyone else.

Until very recently I was the National Historian and Website Editor of the 14th Armored Division Association. I am a published military historian. My work has appeared in the US Army Center of Military History publication, Army History, and one of my articles was nominated for the Army Historical Foundation's award for best article. I have the pleasure and honor of knowing hundreds of WWII veterans, many of whom have been, and those that remain alive, are my dear friends. Among them was my friend and mentor, BG Thomas E. Griess, former Head of the History Dept. at West Point. BG Griess generously taught me a great deal about the study of military history, although we also spent great deal of time discussing operations in the ETO. My personal areas of interest are: Military Thought and Strategy, US Army Logistics during WWII, Armored Force Doctrine and Tactics in WWII, SOS operations in the ETO, and certain aspects of US Army Operations during WWII. If I am allowed to stay on here I hope to contribute some of what I have learned to others on this forum.

In closing, I wish to say that over the years I have learned that the more I think I know about any particular subject or topic, the less I actually understand about it.

    Jim

Ah! It's all clear to me now!

Please excuse me if I seemed a little abrupt in my last post, but I'm not familiar with youself and your work.

A very warm welcome back, Jim.

We have a rule here that prohibits banned members from re-registering. This person posted here before as Duckbill and eventually was banned after a lengthy discussion among the moderators. His removal was not taken lightly.

That's all there is to say about this subject. Y'all can return to your regularly scheduled discussions.
