    Hello,

I hope that someone might be able to help me find the particular regiment that my grandfather was in during the second world war.
He was a member of the Royal Canadian Artillery, II Canadian Corps (I believe). His name was George (Edward) Parsons. He enlisted out of Ottawa, Ontario, with either the 1st or 2nd light anti-aircraft (''ack ack'') regiment. He was also in either the 1st or 2nd battery. I know he was involved in the Battle of the Scheldt Estuary and the liberation of Holland along with much of the First Canadian Army.

I am fuzzy on his regimental specifics because I lost the information a while back. Unfortunately the Cdn gov't doesn't release military enlistment and service records for WWII unless your relative is a casualty of war. I haven't had any luck finding anything about him. If you can help me out it would be much appreciated! Also, when you reply, please copy and paste it in a quick email to me at jparsons@redeemer.ca

    Thanks so much!
    Jeremy Parsons

1st off, welcome Jeremy to the forum. You will find many answers here that will help you.

I believe the Canadian government will give you the info you are looking for, under the right circumstances. Those would be the following: If your grandfather is still alive, he can ask for them. If he does not want to he can give you a signed letter of permission to you, so they can release you the info. If he has passed away over 20 years ago, the oldest child would need to give you the permission (via a letter).

Doing these will able you to get the info you are looking for.
