I am interested in any information on the 16th Inf. Regiment (1st Inf. Division) in the ETO in WWII. My father was XO of this unit prior to his taking command of the 393rd Inf Reg (99th Inf Div) about Nov 1944. I would like to hear from anyone who may have information on this unit from D-Day to November 1944.
The 16th is a fairly well known and active unit whose actions spanned North Africa, Sicily and Northwest Europe. What was your father's name?
My father was James K. Woolnough. He was a Lt. Col. at that point in the war. Any information would be appreciated.
