I was doing some research and came across this guy. He was amazing and I just bought his book. Badass of the Week: Viktor Leonov
Let us know how the book is -- it'd be nice to read a slightly more serious account of his wartime activities.
So far Leonov's book is very good. You can tell he really had a soft spot for Americans. They had alot of exposure to Americans. Leonov's Naval Scouts often found themselves protecting American ships which were transporting supplies to the USSR. He did say that the Americans hurt their feelings because he and his men were told by the Americans that his unit was made up of desperados and cutthroats. He said the Soviet fleet said the same things about them. He went on to say he thought the American sailors had very daring courage when they worked together at Murmansk. Leonov said that he even wrote a book about the partnership with the Americans. The book also gives examples of how the Soviet Naval Scouts had a great influence on the development of the U.S. Navy SEALs. Now I personally understand why the Russians have a soft spot for our SEALs. Russians I have spoken with have said alot of good things about the SEALs and I always wondered why other than the obvious. The Russians view the SEALs as a extention of their own Naval Scouts.
