Thanks Jeff for sharing this. These new (2011) series are right now on the "History Channel" in Europe. Last evening I've seen two in a row!
Hey Tamino; I saw Oleg Drabkin's name on the credits and Oleg has been a major figure in GPW research on the GPW on "The Russian Battlefield" site ( http://english.battlefield.ru/ ). I like how they use maps and stats on the series-something most filmmakers seem unable to do. The makers also acknowledge the fact that Herr Hitler actually DID come harrowingly close to becoming "Emperor of Europe" in 1941. There really needs to be a major film about the Battle Of Moscow and as this series illustrates-who is better qualified to handle this subject than the Russians themselves? The wife is not going to be happy but I think I will be spending the most of this day with some more episodes of "Soviet Storm". JeffinMNUSA
Ha Ha! My wife doesn't like documentaries either. Ah women, but the life would have been impossible without them. (She is watching Chuck Noris' Texas Ranger!) Anyway, I have a solution: a cheap (below 300€) little notebook which slips good under my arm for "toilet-surfing". Over the past several years it was a Dell Mini 10 and now I switched to Acer Aspire AO725. So I can watch whatever I want and where ever I want! She doesn't like Nazis screamong so I have always my headphones on. Now I can watch in the garden, kitchen, garage ...
Mac Users, use Safari, start the video, click option - command A Then double click on the very large file that begins downloading (if available, ie not copywrited) For those not in the know who want to download this excellent series: http://www.youtube.com/user/MaskedElement51?feature=watch PC etc, at http://www.youtube.com/ etc insert ss like this http://www.ssyoutube.com etc Click More, then select the file size and type that you want under the 200 Mb limit. Now if someone could only explain how to overcome this: Error: incorrect IP address It is only possible to download the file from the IP which the link for downloading was received from: abc IP Address, instead of this xyz IP address
If you use Firefox as a browser, add on the download helper. A little icon appears next to the URL when you visit a site with downloadable material. Click on it and an mp4 downloads, sometimes as quick as 5MBs/sec for the entire program. No limit as to file size.
Today I have seen yet another fine documentary about the battle for Moscow. Survivors and participants of the battle are presenting their view. Sincere, unbiassed testimonies, without a trace of bitterness or ideology. This is a story by the people who have seen or participated the battle and lived in Moscow during winter 1941. Absolutely great documentary which I can just recommend. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yd6egExrJGo
Well nothing got done around this house until I got through this whole series and even subscribed to HULU. I cannot say enough good about this series. JeffinMNUSA
Good series Jeff...and explodes the sometimes daft myth that Stalin never suspected a German Invasion....Currently reading The Dictators by Richard Overy....Fits in nicely...
Stalin, as a dictator, thought he knew better than anyone else and I think Hitler counted exactly on these characteristics of the dictator’s psyche. He knew well what self-adoration means. And when we are already talking about British series, there is "Behind the Closed Doors" dealing with the role of Stalin during the WW2. It is worth watching! I have that series as .avi files but there is also possibility to watch it on youtube, here is the 1st episode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2A4hyoOrlU
Is this the one where Churchill and FDR are drinking at night with Joe...and Joe wants to machine gun all Germans or something...and Winnie is horrified...but FDR is smiling and sees the comment for what it was...? But I'll give the prog a go anyway..looks similar.. Edit...yep it is....good find Tamino...
Similar, almost indentical story, but not the same. That was from "Warlords" I guess. But later on, when Winston and Uncle Joe got sobber after two days, Delano persuaded Joe to reduce his apetites.
Love one of the recorded quotes..Berlin... . Molotov to Ribbentrop you are assuming that the war against England has actually been won... If thats the case..why are we sitting here in an air raid shelter.
There is more: 6 episodes I guess. And have you seen 5 episodes of Warlords dealing with rivalries between: 1. Hitler vs. Stalin 2. Stalin vs. Churchill 3. Churchill vs. Rosevealt 4. Rosevealt vs. Stalin 5. ??? Here is a sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUV8IJNszCg
