    Hi all,

As I mentioned in my previous post I have a couple dozen Nazi photographs that I inherited. I have no idea how my grandfather came into possession of these pictures but I'd love to know more about them. There are about 10-15 of them that are worth sharing.

I don't feel like it would be the proper etiquette to start multiple threads for each group of photographs so I think I'll just reply to this thread with each group of photos (unless someone has a better idea on how I should do it?)

Here is the first set of photos, a Nazi parade. I know almost nothing about these pictures. Anybody recognize the location or event?

I've never seen photos quite like this before. The float with the eagle could be a part of a regular Nazi parade, but the sailing ship has me mystified - as well as the man and the young boy.

I hope someone can solve the mystery. For some reason, the symbolism reminds me of Eastern Orthodox churches, but that's a wild guess.

Great stuff, Erin. Thanks for sharing these. Perhaps an Interesting insight into the 'cultural education' side of the Reich. (and personally, I'd vote for keeping 'em all on one thread)
That big building ought to be identifiable...

Von Poop! I think you've done it!! (Haha, that was just fun to write!) Ok, on to business. Your posts inspired me to start googling. First I googled Munich Rathauses. The buildings are a near perfect match. There are a few differences that lead me to wonder if our pictures are showing opposite sides of the building. Or the differences could be attributed to the fact that these pictures are at least 75 years old. Either way, I'm sure it's Munich.

I also googled Munich Day of Art 1937/38. There wasn't any specific picture that matched any of mine however there were quite a few that matched the style. The way the floats looked, the way the men and horses are dressed.

Darn close matches. I think you've cracked the code on these parade pictures Von Poop, although I wish we could find pictures of the golden ship or something. That would be spectacular. Great investigating Von Poop, thank you very much for your help.

Side note on the ship. Upon looking at the original with a magnifying glass and enlarging it on the computer, I believe that the golden ship is floating on skulls. Yep, kinda creepy.

Anyway, as soon as I get a few more spare minutes I'll upload the next batch of photos that I scanned last night.

Ok. Next group of photos. Again, I have no background on these to give you. These aren't as particularly interesting as the first two groups of photos I've posted but I feel like the building next to the lake should be identifiable. I'm not sure you'll be able to see it, but when the picture of the building on the lake is enlarged you are able to see a swastika on the tower of the building.

The 2nd and 3rd photos are obviously at the same location, just different angles. However, I've included the three pictures together because I feel that they have some connection to one another. The print marks on the back of the pictures lead me to believe that they were developed at the same location but came from two different rolls of film. The backs of the photos read "FOTO LANGE BRAUNSCHWEIG". If anyone wants to see what the back of the pics look like, I can scan and upload them.

My best guesses for the top photo would be Tegernsee, in Bavaria, or Hallstatt, Austria. If I had to choose one I would say the former for the first picture

Awww, Wessex Wyvern, please don't work yourself too hard, it isn't that important! Go to bed, it will still be here tomorrow!

I've been searching Google images myself for the past hour or so going on the hint that it could be Bavaria. I've used every possible keyword I can think of but no luck. I did manage to find the same picture you did, I'm pretty sure it's the same spot. It's a pitty that it isn't named. That dome on top is a pretty distinguishing feature now that I compare it to other buildings so at least that's a benefit. Anyway, go to bed, I'm sure the mystery won't be solved tonight. :)

Holy heck!!! You found it!!! Kudos Wessex Wyvern!!! There is no doubt about it, that's the same building. Ok, I'm going to google it a bit and see if I can find any history on it and see how it was used during the war. Thank you Wessex Wyvern, you worked really hard on this one!

So while I'm reading up on Schloss Ort, the location of the last photograph, I figured I'd post the next batch of pics for you all to look at. Location is really the only thing to figure out in this one and given it's tropical setting it might make it easy. These photos are grouped together mainly because of content but also because 4 of them are printed on identical paper with matching print marks on the back. The last 3 I've included with the first 4 because they look like they could possibly be in the same location. I know that there is probably not a lot to learn about these photos, and I've been questioning whether I should upload them or not, but I figured that people might like to see them... so here they are.

Oh, and if anyone would like a link to the photobucket library of all the pictures I've uploaded thus far, here it is.

In the fifth photo, there is something written (or rather carved) above the doorway on the left. The first word looks similar to 'bureau', but I can't quite make it out completely. Maybe you can tell more from the original photo?

    Wessex: Victory!! : D

    As for the other photos...

Tommy's observation I agree with; I think the second word on the bottom says Bureau, and then I can't read the rest of it. In the last picture I noticed a large artillery piece in the right background, I can't tell what type it is though. The soldiers are German for sure obviously in all the photos. The street sign in the 6th photo says something like "Cap D'Ail", which is the name of a place in Monaco. But these photos are obviously not from Monaco...
Best guesses for me would be Indochina.

In photo number 6, there is a board which says (I think) Cap D'Ail. that is in the south of France, near Monaco.
