and for those of the younger group it wasn't just Mork and Mindy that he started on. His great improv skills were the envy of his contemproraries and even up an coming talent like Robin Williams. A few of his older skits are included in this obit/tribute. Goto: http://todayentertainment.today.com/_news/2013/04/12/17721920-comedian-jonathan-winters-dies-at-87?lite
He was indeed one of the greats of comedy. He was also a Marine in the Pacific for 2 1/2 years during WWII.
He had a different take, pioneering sound effect comedy [or at least making it popular]....Reminds me of the Rat Pack era. Had some funny Friars Club bits ...Dang. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XynxTU8ovZ8
Another entertainer that is part of the fabric of my life. I remember him on the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts (Poppy's video above). My dad wasn't much of a TV watcher after the good westerns faded away, but Dean Martin was one of his favorites so we would watch those roasts when I was a kid. A very funny man. And a Marine. Godspeed, Jonathan Winters.
He was The Man. His show was on when I was a young lad and watched until it was cancelled. It was one of my favorites. I especially like the part of the show where he would improv with the hats.
In keeping with ww2....But I loved him in mad mad world...And as clown in Johnny Bravo...but he did this too... http://youtu.be/vLAqPGAz6mc
