Guys--when you get the chance, go buy the book: "Through Hell For Hitler" Which was written by Henry Metelmann, who served as a PAK Geschutze in many fights on the Eastern Front and was in some of the fighting involved at or near Stalingrad.

From what I have already read--this book will easily be in my top 10 favorites.

I have to give this book a double thumbs up--from what I have read already--I highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in seeing what the war was like through the eyes of a German Enlisted man/Pak gunner.

Hi Friedrich--nope--he is in his 80s now and living in England.

Hi Stevin, sorry I dont think he ever published it in German--the first printing was I think in 1990 (ill try to get more info on it and post here tomorrow morning.)

Hi PzJgr, ill get you the ISBN if you wish--or if you have a Barnes & Nobles in Dallas--you can get it through them.

Another I am about to start reading after I finish Panzer Aces, and two books on Kursk (grin) and ((I bet you guys thought I was going to quit reading about the Eastern Front)) and then a Book that Stevin Sent me on Sepp Dietrich. After that comes a book written by a member of the Hitler Youth who was going to fight in the last days of Berlin--this is a day by day account.

I almost forgot--Stevin--my friend and Uboat vet--Bernhard Trenn is writing a book about his service in the Uboats and with Wolfgang Luth--ill see if its possible to get you a copy. I have to get it from Bernhard. The only thing is is that I dont know if he is finished writing it yet--Ill see what I can find out. Also, I think he is going to have it printed in English too.

What a shame..what a life lived..When anyone talks of the good German soldier and I can be the first to dispute some choices of fan type stuff...this German was like many others..a good German. RIP

    I missed this.
Sad news, loved the book for a long while, and found Metelmann's life as a whole remarkable.
