Just not having much luck. He remembers his name as William Lane (possibly William B Lane), he was older than my dad, born in or around '50, was promoted from Captain to Major and my dad thinks he would have stayed in and retired military. He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany '73-'75...in the 34th MP Detachment, 793rd MP Division (hope I got that all right). I could sure use some websites if anyone knows of any. I have googled his name and added the MP info etc and get nothing...at least no obits yet so that is a good thing. You guys and gals were so helpful when I was looking into my family's WWII history, I would sure appreciate a shove in the right direction.

Maybe it was the 793rd MP Battalion? Lineage & Honors for 793rd MP Bn. And the Lineage & Honors of the 34th MP Detachment. Not a ton of info, but they give a base from which to start.

You may want to try contacting the Military Police Association website, though I am not sure if it is up to date or even active. Then there is the 793rd MP Battalion Association website which does seem to be active. Contact info is right on the Home page.

Also, maybe put a message on the 34th MP Det page at Military.com.

Thank you so much. Before asking on here, I did find the 34th MP Det on Military.com but it won't let me join/log on. When I submit my info it just goes to one of those pages like there was an error. I plan to keep trying. I found a article that sounds like it could have been the same man in the New York Times...sounded like he was then a Colonel vacationing in VA. I will snoop around some of the sites you gave me and see what I can find. Thanks again.
