    So on that Kursk win Did you line up your armor and jackhammer on a narrow front-say two hexes- using multiple hits to make progress? There doesn't seem to be a lot of room for maneuver on this what what with all those Russki units just aching to take out your supply.
    I will tell you a funny story; I use the partial screen and a Romainian cav unit got in my rear? Well I whacked him with tanks and that was that...or so I thought. So I am in the business of ripping Romania to shreds when all of a sudden my supply goes dead! It seems this cav unit barely survived and went on to jam up my supply-and the fact that he survived was lost on me as he blipped off the edge of my screen! A trip to the Gulag for Comrade General Jeff on that one!

    Since the game is hexed base, I figured out a very good offensive approach is to drive upwards and smash through the weaker units and prepare for the next round.

    My units would end up looking a lot like an arrow pointing upwards. One line of units to maintain supply, however somewhat relaxed because of the movement knowledge with the rivers (if no bridge is active, units can only cross a river and attack, in one hex).

    I'd encourage you to smash through the campaigns! I'd say you're ready.

    [IMG]Here's an example of what I did. I drived up in an ad-hoc arrow, concious that the enemy would probably move to the light blue sections. Like-wise north, with a panzer division flanking down the river on the left.

    And I was correct, the enemy moved to slow the panzers down - while I suffer almost zero casaulties. I still have the initiative! Hope these ideas help.

    At the end of the second turn, I've clearly made real good progress. If only I had luckier attacks I would have taken Kursk by two rounds.

    By the third round - I only attacked the place and the defending tank corp retreated and easily won. [IMG]

    Hawk;
    I am getting so I can generally beat the computer-though not with a lot of prestige points at the end of the game. I am figuring I am missing some finer point on how to level objective cities without a seige and massive losses. I will let you know if I figure out the trick.

    Generally tank units with kats or arty are good open ups on tougher units. Artillery with infantry is a good way to dwindle supplies (make them greyed out/useless). Make note that moving your units with brigade attachments that aren't mobile (or the unit isn't mobile itself) will take the supply, or grey them out - making them not being used in battle.

    From what I see, you're doing great Jeff.

    Keep it up comrade!

    Hawk;
    Well the Soviet player can afford to Palooka his way through as he has enough units to cover the gaps. With the Axis player it takes a little more finesse.
    The Baku scenario is quite interesting, representing as it did "the war at the World's end" and carrying with it as it did the potential to end the war in the Axis favor. The bad weather ruined the progress of my Western pincer on this one and I should have ran for the road and waited for a favorable change. Engineers are a must and design your columns carefully.
    You get more adept at this as you go along and I hope there are more games from this designer.

    The dev team is I think only two or one person.

    There's a few great scenarios made by the players, but yes. I would love to see another expansion or sequel. The Western front would be amazing. There's quite a large amount of possibilities with this formula, I especially love the scenarios that are unlocked if you win decisive/brilliant victories.

    I am not quite ready for the campaign scenarios yet-still working on some of the finer points of this system. Now that the designers have the basic building blocks in place they can pretty much go anywhere with this. I would like to see an expansion to where you can play either defense or offense. Western Europe would be good-and the Far East. Then maybe they could get the game down to tactical levels.

    I'd like to see the game's exploitation of the Western Front. Especially all of the units present.

    I wonder how this would translate into the regimental scale ala Panzerblitz ? Or maybe even taking it down to squad level as in the Squad Leader series? The possibilities are vast!

    There's a Barbarossa scenario that is the entire eastern front and all the units are corps level. Works out alright.

    Hawk;
    Gratifying to just nail a scenario your first time trying. I have been tossing used up or out of contact units into the reorganization pool once done with them and I am taking it that this adds to one's prestige points? Like STAVKA wants their toys back as soon as you are done? This could come in handy during the campaign scenarios.

    Actually most scenarios, you are punished for getting rid of units. STAVKA punishes you heavily for scrapping units. The military doctrine emphasizes the assumption that every man is worth it to smash themselves against the Germans, no matter how weak the division/corps is. As far as I can tell you all prestige is, is just score - whether you wanna save up for bragging rights or for STAVKA reserves - which can be useful for tough nuts to crack.

    Here's the result of my last Red Tide campaign. If you manage to do so well you can rack up a lot of prestige that towards the end it doesn't really matter.

    YEah you don't want to disperse units-but reorganization costs nothing (or maybe even gets you points in the campaign scenarios?) and you can rush the reorganized points and hardware up to your frontline units on your next turn. At any rate...think I am about up to par to start on the campaign games... you say some really wild stuff happens after you make decisive victories? INTERESTING!
    QUITE THE CAMPAIGN YOU HAD THERE!

    PS. ANd the designers do vastly underestimate the role of Partisans-especially in the later scenarios.

    I don't think so the operational role of the partisan is minimal. The Germans had less troops at the front but this is factored in to th oob's, their main affect was the disruption of supplies which they are great for here.

    I agree to a point that point being Operation Bagration. Of course it would not be much of a game if the Partisans were as powerful in the UoC scenario as they were in reality; http://books.google.com/books?id=aLS6oi3pmhsC&pg=PT17&lpg=PT17&dq=partisan+actions+bagration&source=bl&ots=ZINh0FUW-1&sig=5QEezL5jM3HkxmVBnmAMfh5FsNI&hl=en&sa=X&ei=IP4IUpyVM4aOyAGOmIE4&ved=0CDwQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=partisan%20actions%20bagration&f=false

    I'm plugging away with trying to make my own scenario. Just testing AI triggers and possibilities right now. If anyone has a site that shows division/corps placement, especially in Yugoslavia you let me know 8)

    However had to use Slovakian infantry to mimic Croatian troops.

    INTERESTING! Do you have those Partisan units that can choke off supply lines in this scenario also?

    I do allow the Comintern to deploy partisans, however the scenario is a bit on hold until I can figure out unit placements and strength and then translate it into the game, as well as some AI triggers. (Most of the Axis units tend to like to huddle around Zagreb).

    I'll be buying this over the weekend. Very much looking forward to another good look at a Panzer General type game. Hopefully the head to head otpion is solid.

    I've purchased both UoC and Red Turn and I recommend buying directly from the developer; as I had some trouble getting the two to jibe, and only the developers knew anything about getting it all up and running. ANYTHING ELSE these guys come up with I will be instantly buying also-as these games are as close to the old AH/SPI games as they get.
