Hi there! This is my first post -- thanks in advance for the welcome!

Quick bio: My name is Marjorie, and I'm based in Dallas. I'm here primarily because I'm writing a novel set in World War II Singapore -- have been working on it for about six years, but who's counting? -- but also because one of my clients (I do social media marketing for businesses and authors) has a book coming out that's set in World War II Cairo. (Don't worry! I'm not spamming anyone -- I'm here primarily for information on my own book, but secondarily to get to know more about the history behind my client's book.)

I've collected quite a few books over the years about the war in Singapore, most of which I bought while on a research/vacation trip to the country back in 2008. I'm continually amazed at just how little information you can get here about that particular aspect of the war, despite its critical importance to the Pacific Theater.

Anyway, that's about it! Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

    Cheers,
    Marjorie

    Welcome to the forum.
Good luck with your book, not the happiest of subjects to write about, bit grim in fact.

Wow, thanks so much for the fast welcomes!

Owen: Yeah, I sometimes wonder why the heck I chose this particular topic. But I studied the comfort women issue in graduate school and somehow the topic stuck with me. I learned more about Singapore a few years later and then ended up coming up with a story that blends my graduate school topic and that besieged city. I do have to take a break now and then, though, and just watch some old episodes of "Gilligan's Island" or go walk my dogs just to take a break and come up for air. :pipesmoke:

Hi, Belasar! I'm sure I'll have lots of questions! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

    Cheers,
    Marjorie

Thank you so much for all the welcomes! The book is coming along well, and I look forward to spamming everyone with it when it's finally done. ;-) Whenever that is. I'm hoping it'll be before hell refreezes or something.

    Cheers,
    Marjorie

Gosh, no, not yet. I've an agent who's very keen to read it and has been asking for chapters, but I'm so painfully insecure that I'd rather she see the whole product once it's done. Right now it's a massive 400+ pages -- and I'm still in 1943. Ugh. Eventually I just have to stick a fork in it and call it done, but I'm enjoying the process. My goal is to finish it by the end of the year. :S!

Good luck with your book. I'm curious to read it when you're done. I read several drafts of Jeff's book (he's Slipdigit) and I hope helped him. I also had the pleasure of reading the finished product.

I'm glad you found the thread useful.
