If you are looking for squadron markings, would they have stayed the same during Night Fighter Operations, Erich? Would the squadron markings have been similar as Day Intruders in 1945?

March 1943 to Nov 1943: Valley on Isle of Anglesey in the far north-west of Wales.

Nov 1943 to April 1944: Exeter

April 1944 to Sept. 1944, Winkleigh, Wing Commander Moose Fumerton DFC* AFC.
Re-equipping with deHavilland Mosquito XII's, saw the unit defending the invasion ports and achieving some success.
In July Mosquito Mk XXX's replace the Mark XII's

17 September 1944 to 27 November 1944: Colerne, training for intruder operations.

27 November 1944 to June 1945: Manston. Wing Commander Russ Bannock.
Squadron Leader Don MacFadyen DSO DFC from 20th November 1944 to 10th September 1945.

The Squadron used the code HU during this period.

RCAF 460 Squadron Intruder Raids commenced in December 1944 allowing 23 air and 10 ground victories to be claimed during the last four months of the war,
raising the unit's total victories in the air to 53 1/2.

So far I have not found any book published on RCAF 460 Squadron.

Fred this is marvelous and like Skip said an operations book would of been nice, tracking down the 406th nfs actually during the night in 1945. one Mossie was going after a Ju 88G-6 flown by Krause during Unternehment Gisela. hit one engine but got too close the rear gunner of the Ju 88 ripped up the Mossie and it was never heard from again probabloy crashed. Krause was able to restart his engine and make it home.

 

Hello Fred & Erich, pardon my ignorance, but in doing a little research on 406 squadron I was directed to this page. I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me in finding as much info as possible regarding 46 (RAF) and 406 (RCAF) squadrons, as my Dad (Wesley (Pat) Maloney) served with both during WWII & was later W/C of 406. He rarely said anything about his service and I would very much like to learn all I can. Thanks for your good work here!

My father was assigned to the Saskatoon home of the Lynx squadron just before I was born here and I currently work in the area that was once the air base.

 

Hi guys can anyone help me 8 have found my dads observers and air gunners flying log... Looks like he flew with 406 squadron ... His name was Geoffrey Thomas Jones.. Can anyone shed any further info on his service time?

Hello all. I'm Warrant Officer David Rowe, and am the current 406 Sqn RCAF Historian. We're now known as 406 Maritime Operational Training Squadron, based out of Shearwater, NS. I'm an Airborne Electronic Sensor Operator, AES Op, and the Senior AES Op Instructor for the Sqn since 2013. We're coming close to the 75th Anniversary of 406, and as such, I'm busy digging up as much material as possible. I'm presenting weekly historical vignettes to the Squadron, and we're working on two publications. One, hopefully in time for the 75th Anniversary (10 May 2016), will be a coffee table book, with short stories, anecdotes, photos, vignettes on the aircraft flown by the Sqn, the people, and the various bases. The second will be an Official complete history of the Sqn. I would like to solicit any information that members on here might have, and in return, I will attempt to provide as much information that's requested of me. If you are a former member of 406 Sqn RCAF, or the relative of a former member, and wish to attend the celebrations, please let me know, and I can pass on all the info. We do have a facebook page, 406 Lynx Squadron 75th Anniversary, and a website linked to the RCAF Association. Thanks, and hope to chat with many of you in the near future.

I do have some photos in the archives, taken by one of the aircrew, of both the Beaufighter and Mosquito's of 406 Sqn RCAF. Once the archivist at the Shearwater Aviation Museum gets them scanned, I'll post. I've got about 20 boxes of stuff in the archives to wade through!

 

I'm not sure how this works but here goes. I am interested in all information about the 406 squadron that I can get. I would like to know if the afore mentioned publications would be available after the reunion? Dad was a pilot with the squadron from 42-45. Like most vets, he never really spoke about the war. Thanks to all who serve or have served!!
