    Hi,

Polish books say that Engima Code would have never been broken if it hadn't been for Polish mathematicians. What's your opinion on this matter?

You may want to check out this article before you answer in comparison with wikipedia story which I find rather non-judgmental.

"What's your opinion on this matter?" Great thread!!! Tnx!

It is a fact. Recognized by one and all.
There are a large number of absolutely world class documentaries now posted on YouTube that go into detail on this.
Well worth your time and effort to locate. They are, nearly one and all, incredibly intellectually challenging, interesting and educational presentations. World class stuff.

    - If this thread goes quiet, I will pop a few more of these videos in to keep it alive.

Start here: (I was looking for a place to pop this, thanks!!!) (Otto! We need a "Secret War" forum section here!!!!)

Uncovering Colossus - Prof Brian Randell
Colossus, the world's first electronic computer, was built during World War II, but kept secret for more than 30 years.
Professor Brian Randell tells the story about how he stumbled across a reference to its existence and
eventually led to the UK government lifting the veil of secrecy surrounding this pioneering computer in 1975.
Prof Brian Randell's presentation was given in the new Colossus Gallery in The National Museum of Computing on 7 February 2013.

An outstanding presentation. Well worth a listen.

Not the most riveting of presentations, but full of information. Polish credits near the end of this talk.

I wish that he who opened this first came back . I have the feeling he just dropped it and left, without checking whether this had been discussed before or if he was dealing with people who knew about this event or not :eyebrows:

I am now looking at a movie called "Enigma" made in 2001

However I don't think the security to enter this highly top secret installation would have been this slack in real life, sentries but nobody is checking Identification. scores of people coming and going at the same time!. LOL

No the one I saw has no modern parts it's from 2001 and has Kate Winslet in it.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0157583/

Produced by Sir Mick Jagger who lent the movie his own enigma machine!
