'War Without Garlands, Operation Barbarossa 1941-1942', by Robert Kershaw. I think it's just as good as his 'It never snows in september'.

Just finished reading "The Pictorial History of World War II" for the second time since I got it last year. Here's some photos from the book:

 

War Plan Orange: The Strategy to Defeat Japan, 1897-1945

As the name implies, it covers US warplanning up to the war. Author Edward S. Miller shows that the way in which the Pacific war was ultimately fought had all been determined beforehand.

 

Some books I ordered a while back:

Still working my way through this book - about 3" thick. It has a very extensive bibliography, and Mr. Goldstein recommended it when I first started reading it. I find myself a little skeptical now, however, as some information was obviously not researched as well as it could have been. The author states that 14,000 British women who married Canadians, when in fact the final figure was 48,000. A difference of 34,000 is quite significant!! The numbers for the Americans didn't even get mentioned, yet it was considerably higher. Oh well, I shall continue on reading and follow the maxim that any fact needs to be corroborated from more than one source!

Just finished Italian aces of WW2 ( Osprey) by Massimello and Apostolo.

It has been an interesting read so far

 

I just finished "Beyond Band of Brothers" by Winters & Kingseed. Brief, but a great f/u to the mini-series!

I'm finding Terry's list on Stratagy and tactics to be very influental to how I now look at many of the battles fought in the war
