HUH did I miss something mortman? lol, I guess I did, I've only been here... not even an entire day. You are???
Hello gentlemen, 'War Without Garlands, Operation Barbarossa 1941-1942', by Robert Kershaw. I think it's just as good as his 'It never snows in september'. Regards, I-16 Rata
Just finished reading "The Pictorial History of World War II" for the second time since I got it last year. Here's some photos from the book:
War Plan Orange: The Strategy to Defeat Japan, 1897-1945 As the name implies, it covers US warplanning up to the war. Author Edward S. Miller shows that the way in which the Pacific war was ultimately fought had all been determined beforehand.
Some books I ordered a while back: SS-Heimwehr Danzig by Michaelis, German combat divers ( Schiffer ), From Barbarossa to Odessa vol 2 by Bernad
Still working my way through this book - about 3" thick. It has a very extensive bibliography, and Mr. Goldstein recommended it when I first started reading it. I find myself a little skeptical now, however, as some information was obviously not researched as well as it could have been. The author states that 14,000 British women who married Canadians, when in fact the final figure was 48,000. A difference of 34,000 is quite significant!! The numbers for the Americans didn't even get mentioned, yet it was considerably higher. Oh well, I shall continue on reading and follow the maxim that any fact needs to be corroborated from more than one source!
Just finished the current Patton Saber. and now starting Astor, Gerald, The Right To Fight: A History of African Americans in the Military.
Just finished Italian aces of WW2 ( Osprey) by Massimello and Apostolo. Next order: Fallschirmjäger-Division 1 volume 2 (Schiffer) Turning point by Authors: P.P. Popov, A.V. Kozlov & B.G. Usik Display Products
STALIN'S GENERALS By Harold Shukman. Not bad read. At last I can move on to one I have been dying to read.
WWII: The apparatus of death.(Time Life) (Excellent but extremely disturbing.) Other: Theodore Rex by Edmund Morris (Excellent) Yours, Bill
I'm currently reading 'Ten Days to D-Day, Countdown to the Liberation of Europe' by David Stafford. It has been an interesting read so far
I just finished "Beyond Band of Brothers" by Winters & Kingseed. Brief, but a great f/u to the mini-series! Also, just got in the mail: The Pacific War by John Costello Guadalcanal: The Definitive Account of the Landmark Battle by Richard B. Frank Shattered Sword: The Untold Story of the Battle of Midway by Jonathan Parshall
just this morning I began The Leverage of Sea Power by Colin S. Grey I'm finding Terry's list on Stratagy and tactics to be very influental to how I now look at many of the battles fought in the war
Preparing for upload: The Canadian Army at War: From Pachino to Ortona, The Canadian Campaign in Sicily and Italy, 1943. And The Australian Army At War, 1939-1944. Both "wartime" productions. I'll post when they're uploaded, but you probably already know where to look.
I finished up "A Bridge Too Far". Started into "Eastern Front Combat" and afterwards, "Hell's Highway" by George Koskimaki.
