"Ploesti: The Great Ground-Air Battle of 1 August 1943" by James Dugan and Carroll Stewart, Random House, N. Y. 1962.

I've just bought this first edition in English at a second-hand book shop for $5. Very beautiful looks and a lot of very good photos. [IMG]

    Any comments?

I hadn't ignored your posting, Friedrich - I've just never, ever read anything about Ploesti ! :(

I often see Leon Wolff's 'Low Level Mission' in bookshops but have never bought a copy.

    Then it's yours, Martin.

I don't think this non-air war buff would apprecaite it as much. ;) I think I have your adress some where... I'll check out and send it to you —along those long-ago promised letter and drawing. I could include a post card of the film "The English Patient" too. [IMG] [IMG]

Friedrich I read the book about a year ago. It is a very good book. It gives good details into the mission from those who were actually there.

Fried not sure of your book as I have not much on the Ploesti raids. Does your book cover all the missions agasint this terrible target ?

You may try and look into the seperate US bomb bomb group histories that took part on the August mission of 43. Another aveneue is Eric Mombeeks Sturmjäger Band 1 which covers the Bf 109G equipped JG 4 when stationed in the area and took on the US B-24 formations.........

Thanks for the input, Greg and Erich! ;)

But I think the book just covers the first and most famous raid against Ploeiesti. very detailed account from both sides. [IMG]

Did I mention the cool pictures? [IMG] :D

Not sure right now, but I'll tell ya later. Maybe I can scan them and send some to you, if interested —before Martin gets the book. ;) [IMG]

I'm flipping through the book right now. The book covers the low-level raid on August 1, 1943. Alot of pictures I never saw until I got the book. Camera shots from on the deck over the refinery.

Also if you go to Historic Aviation they have a special 50 year anniversary book on the Ploesti low level raid. It costs about $50 though.

There seem to be a lot of books about this subject - another one is 'Into The Guns Of Ploesti' by Leroy Newby (1991).

I've got it, Erich! The book has 118 photographs! —which I'm going to scan to-day and this week.

Is anyone interested in getting those pictures too? All you'll need is an e-mail account with some space —no hotmail crap... [IMG]

Seems like Martin wasn't very interested in getting the book...

I actually received the Ploesti book, original print, from a veteran who flew the mission over the oil fields. That is one in the treasury.
