And then there were two... "Lt. Col. Robert L. Hite, the last survivor among eight crewmen who were captured by the Japanese when American bombers brought World War II home to Japan in Jimmy Doolittle’s daring air raid in 1942, died on Sunday in Nashville. He was 95." http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/31/us/robert-l-hite-survivor-of-doolittle-raid-and-japanese-imprisonment-dies-at-95.html?_r=0
very courageous men! first, taking off from a carrier with a B-25!...then, flying over enemy homeland....then, hoping there is enough fuel to get to an airfield, if you can find it....but no,..... then, they crash landed or bailed....all in one day of work...big Salute to them...
It's amazing that he spent all that time in a Japanese prisoner of war facility and still lived to the age of 95. That's not a situation that normally lent itself to extending one's longevity. Especially with the added fact that he had been a participant in an attack on the Home Islands. I'm pretty sure that he received special attention from the authorities for that. May he rest in peace.
