I would like to recommend these three for anyone into more information about the different aspects of the war. The Battle of the Bulge aftermath, Oral histories of Pearl Harbor, and an medic/infantryman's personal view of the war in the ETO from Normandy until the end of the war. Remembering Pearl Harbor by Robert S. La Forte and Ronald E. Marcello Oral stories, that tell it like it was at PH. These people pull no punches The Dead of Winter by Bill Warnock Recovering the KIA's years later in the Bulge 99th Div. A look at how people worked to find the long dead remains of lost soldiers. Etched In Purple: One Soldier's War in Europe by Frank J. Irgang 29/78th Div. From the view of a medic and later infantryman. Tells of experiences few have ever told.
I'll definitely have to check out Remembering Pearl Harbor since we are going there in December, can't wait! I have read The Dead Of Winter a couple of times and I highly recommend it as well. Have a good one!
You take it easy. The Dead of Winter is so sad. For me it is the dedication of the people searching that makes feel glad that someone has not forgotten the sacrifices made by young men. The Pearl Harbor book made me remember how my dad felt about the battle, and the friends he lost there.
Good recommendations. I hadn't heard of The Dead Of Winter until I saw it listed in the bibliography of Peter Caddick-Adams' Bulge history. It was never published in the UK so I had a copy sent from the US - it is a unique book about the recovery of lost servicemen.
