Unarmed US Marines foil suspected terrorist attack onboard high-speed train between Amsterdam and Paris after they take down Kalashnikov-wielding Moroccan gunman known to intelligence services
    • A suspected Moroccan terrorist opened fire with a Kalashnikov on board a high speed train in northern France
    • Eyewitnesses said two U.S. Marines on the train disarmed the 26-year-old gunman and pinned him to the ground
    • The man was armed with a Kalashnikov AK-47 assault rifle and was carrying at least 300 round of ammunition
    • French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve praised the Marines who almost certainly 'averted a disaster'

Seeing reports that the two GIs were USAF and National Guard. Still bad-ass.

news media rarely has anything correct....I read an NG, and a USAF, ......anyway, this shows what shock action can do....seems like an AK would be somewhat unwieldy in a train,.....

Also shows that it's the man, not the gun.

I was reading that as well....my news feed seems to have it's mouth full of humble pie.
It's kind of flattering that the world wanted it to be Marines.

Even a middle-aged British IT guy jumped in just to give him a few whacks! It must have been very satisfying for all of them.

Little street justice in there, I think. 9/11 joins up with 7/7?

"I grabbed the handgun, got that away from the guy and threw it. Then I grabbed the AK-47, which was at his feet, and started muzzle-bumping him in the head with it.
"Everybody just started beating the guy while Spencer held the chokehold until he went unconscious."

These kids today. You don't "muzzle-bump" people, you butt-stroke them! I blame the AR15 and that plastic stock for the loss of the term. With that said, an AK is excellent weapon for some decent butt-stroking - nice solid beechwood stock on most of them. I'm guessing that Moroccan ain't nearly as pretty today as he was yesterday.

You'd be wrong. The US Army did away with issuing bayonets to deploying troops over a decade ago, and eliminated rifle/bayonet training back in 2010. One of their reasons, and one of the most ignorant reasons I've ever heard is that; close combat has become a rare occurance and some soldiers that carried knives when involved in hand to hand combat had their knives taken away from them and were themselves stabbed.
The Marine Corps still trains in bayonet fighting (and knife fighting also, which the Army has added as part of it's combatives training), jab, slash, vertical butt stroke, horizontal butt stroke, smash and parry right and left are still well used terms. As for the black rifle, I've never seen anyone break the stock, and it is quite capable of being used to destroy an opponent in that manner.
Here's a demonstration for a group of educators:

That being said, I salute the Guardsman and Airman that put the dirtbag down. Well done!

Given a choice between being butt-stroked with a plastic stock or some steel plated beechwood, I'll take the plastic every time. The NG guy did great, I was just amused that he used the term "muzzle-bump."

    "Start hitting him."

    "When do I stop?"

"When there's no reason to keep hitting him, ever again."

    "Gotcha.

My brother-in-law's brother was nearly in that movie, but they didn't need any six foot six inch VC.
