Looking at my grandfather's DD214, his MOS is listed at 014 (Motor Trans NCO) and box 31: RIFLE M1 MKM 44. But it is listed on there that he is awarded a CIB. I thought you had to have a Infantry MOS to be awarded a CIB?

From my research, he was with the 16th Armored, C Company, 64th Armored Infantry

Would just being in the Armored Infantry part of the 16th make him eligible even with the non infantry MOS?

Going from memory here, but in WW2, the criteria was less strict than it is today(IIRC, the MOS qual dates from the '60s). Basically, an "infantryman", just had to be assigned to an infantry unit, an there was no requirement pertaining to an infantry MOS. So, being assigned to an Armored Infantry outfit would meet that qualification.

Thanks! I didn't know that the MOS requirement wasn't until the '60s
