Hey Guys, Post Basic Training in WWII, would I be correct in assuming that the Army's Infantry units did more "physical" training than the Artillery or Tank units, since they were more of a technical nature? Thanks! James
Certainly the Infantry would conduct a considerably more route marches of various lengths where Mounted troops would have fewer, though some would occur as 'PT'.
Physical Training Manual dated March 6, 1941 can be downloaded here: https://archive.org/details/Fm21-20 Don't know if this will answer your question.
A different kind of physical fitness was needed by different types of soldier. Infantry had to/have to march all day carrying the world on their backs. Artillery men might need to carrying 96 lb shells all day acroiss a gun position.
