Right now I am cooking turkey and andouille gumbo and cream corn. Not bad. Got the turkey all injected up in the fridge. I'll get up at 0400 and stick it in the oven, the jump back in the fart sack. Later on in the morning, I'll load up and head over to Mom's house to get ready for the influx of family for the annual feast. We make Poinsettia's for the Christmas drink, a mixture of champagne, cranberry juice, and Cointreau. After chowing down, we'll exchange gifts and hang out. Gonna bring some cigars too so some of the couzans and I can burn a few on the back porch. It's supposed to be in the mid to upper 70s during the day tomorrow, with extra humidity in the air. Not exactly Christmassy weather, but last year the heat was into the upper 80s with rain. What are y'all doing?
It's in the 30s here, but compared to last week, it feels more comfortable. Not warm, but comfy enough. Christmas Eve tends to be rowdy, with more liquor consumed than food. I don't drink, so I get a front row seat to some pretty interesting stuff! Christmas Day is much quieter. That's probably a good thing.
It's going to be in the mid-50s temperature-wise, with rain predicted for the Phoenix area. We're going out for breakfast, opening presents, then church. Then a nice family dinner. Merry Christmas.
We're just about to walk over to friends' whose turn it is to prepare Christmas Dinner this year. My Wife has had to almost physically pull me from the armchair where I've been slumped with my new copy of Schneider's 'Tigers in Combat Vol. III'...........................
Just took me an hour to set up a pirate ship for the little guy. Soon off to the annual Magellan like trek to see all the families. Happy Holidays to you all.
The exact same! Merry Christmas! Got Ken Burns "The War" so I know how I'll be spending some of my day tomorrow!
Presents, food, naps, already smoked a turkey and chicken. Made homemade BBQ sauce, cole slaw, baked beans, and a pound cake yesterday. Gonna relax with family. About to watch some old WWII flicks. Tonight, bonfire and adult beverages. Y'all come!
Whole family at our house and wading through wrapping paper keeping the dogs including a St Bernard (wearing a lions mane) away from the food. Tripping over Lego building maniacs and trying to avoid getting full make-up done by a 10 year old. Slowly drinking my way through a bottle of Cave while cooking and serving the dinner then more food and drink and chaos til bedtime. Age ranges from 6 to 89. Love it!
Had cousins, and family Christmas Eve to continue a 75 year family tradition. Brunch today at our son's then dinner at my sister-in-law's. Exhausting, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Buon Natale a tutti!
Daughter and family arrived Friday, Opened presents this morning, had our traditional orange-cinnamon breakfast rolls and lots of coffee. Found out I can still ride a Flexible Flyer sled standing up ! If only for 15 yards before bailing off. Temps rising here from the current 18 degrees to low 30's tonight. Followed by an ice storm and an additional 3 to 5 inches of snow to refresh the foot of white stuff we have. Spending the rest of the day shooting pool, eating, watching the kids play, eating, more sledding, have a couple of hot toddy's and in a bit, sit down for a slow cooked Ham and all the fixin's. Merry Christmas Rogues and Roguettes !
Gordon, sorry to hear about the flu. I hear a shot of 25 year old single malt with honey in it will knock it right out,. well maybe several shots. Very quiet Christmas here, Just Jeannie and myself, daughter coming in a couple of weeks. But ate well, walked the dogs in 75 degree sunny weather and managed to get some work done, the Grinch in me, but have a deadline looming Hope the New year is good to all of us. Cheers, Gaines
The usual family things here-big meals, sweets, presents, etc. Tomorrow, we will be shooting some automatic weapons (both foreign and domestic) and some some firearms from the war. A close relative has several long arms and handguns from various nations.
