The Clint Eastwood WWII Films

Have any of you had a chance to see Flags of Our Father or Letters From Iwo Jima?

They were both great films but the first is definitely more of an exploration of civilian life than a 'true' war story. Letters From Iwo Jima was incredible. It managed to capture a large amount of information and is told from the Japanese side which is a perspective you don't often encounter.

Thoughts?

 

When I read the thread title I thought movies Clint Eastwood was in. :red:

I've seen Flags of our Fathers but unfortunately haven't seen Letters of Iwo Jima yet.

And speaking of Mr. Eastwood, anyone here remember Kelly's Heroes? I really liked that movie. You'll see what young Donald Sutherland was like. :thumb:

 

Kellys Heroes is my favourite ever War film. Hence my Forums name:thumb:Great fun:lol:

 

"Where Eagles Dare" is another belter, where Clint kills about 400 Germans with only about fifty bullets...

Thought the Movie Flags of Our Father very slow, in fact i couldn't get into it at all and stopped the DVD, will try again at a later date .. :der:

 

Did you ever go back to watching this Jim? I ask because i also had to take two goes at watching this movie, the second time was much better than the first. My final verdict on this movie is it is well worth viewing. :thumb:

 

Yes i did mate, and like you it was well worth the watch. The thing with this film is it takes between 20-30 minutes to get started .. :blue:

 

Ive seen both of them once and thought Clint did a great job making them. I dont remember much about them being its been since they came out since i watched them to be able to remark more on them.

 

Ive seen Kelly's Heroes at least 100 times since it came out and its one of my all-time most favorite movies.

Big Joe: "What's up?"
Oddball: "The tanks broke and they are trying to fix it"
Big Joe: "Why arent you halping them?"
Oddball: "Oh man, I only ride them I dont know how to fix them"
Big Joe: "Creeps"

Those lines get me every time.

 

Where Eagles Dare is another favorite that ive seen approx 100 times since release. I have only one photo from this movie which was the one that the Chicago Tribune used in the original Ad when the movie was first released. It shows Richard Burton with the the German Gal who is secretly with his team (I cant think of her name off hand?) and he is holding her while sitting at the Staumtisch with the other Gebirgsjager Major (the snob) whom he tells to mind his own business and that he's Himmlers Brother.
