Trying to contact Brian "Sapper" Guy Hi If I may skip a formal intro for the moment, I am a fellow British Vet trying to contact Brian who appears to have dropped out of the scene at the moment. If anyone can help me, or just assure me that he is OK then fine. Regards to all Ron Goldstein (aka ex4thhussar)
Hello Ron, I have sent an email to Brian regarding your request, i hope he replies soon.. :thumb: Regards, Jim
Got this back Ron; Hi James lovely to hear from you. Hope you are all well? Yes I know Ron Goldstein from another site. genuine old vet and a very nice man. Best wishes to you Brian If you would like me to pass on your email to Brian i can do this? I am sure he would love to hear from you. :thumb:
Re locating Brian Jim Well done that man, it's good to know that Brian is OK ! Obviously the last e-mail address I had from him was out of date and so I would be obliged if you could ask him to contact me. In return I promise to come back here and formally introduce myself. Thanks again Ron
Intro from another British WW2 vet Hi As a Brit who accidentally came across this website while looking up a friend I think I would be considered un-grateful if I didn't introduce myself properly. The simplest way, for me, anyway, is to supply a few links: The main link to my Personal Profile on the BBC WW2 Peoples War Archives is: BBC - WW2 People's War - Ron Goldstein's War This profile, which includes a chronological index of my wartime travels, was created in 2006 just before the website became a "sealed" archive, accepting no further postings. To call up any individual story, scroll down to "Stories contributed by Ron Goldstein" and click on the link. Postings I made to "Threads" started by others can also be found at "Ron Goldstein added messages to the following stories" Be warned...............there's an awful lot to read out there Regards to all Ron
Welcome Ron. There is indeed an awful lot to read there ! I see after a quick scan of it all that you were inspired to write poetry in Sicily. So I am guessing you are a fan of Hamish Henderson ?
Who's Hamish Henderson ? Dave And actually, I'm not kidding :der: . As an ex Italy man I've heard the D-Day Dodgers song so many times but never bothered to find out who the original author was. Thanks for the welcome and yes... I did warn you that there was a lot to read. The poem, by the way is the only one I ever wrote so something I saw in Adrano must have inspired me. Cheers Ron
Thanks for the welcome Sebastian (or is it really Sebastiaan?) Thanks for the welcome, I'll try not to bore ! Ron
Lol. It's also funny then that I have never actually heard the song performed. I have about three audio versions of Henderson's "51st Highland Division's Farewell to Sicily", but none of "The Dodgers". I only have the lyrics, the history and the knowledge that it is sung to the tune of "Lili Marlene"..... : )
It's Sebastiaan. I am Dutch. So we say Sebastiaan, but it is not a problem if you call me Sebastian.:thumb: Best Regards, Sebastiaan
