The Dutch front-line fighter in 1939.

It wasn't bad, but was nothing special, and was rather less advanced than contemporary designs (fixed undercarriage etc).

 

Do I see a faint resemblance to the P38 Fork-tailed Devil, but a couple of years ahead?

 

Think so, Fokker G1 introduced in 1936 paris airshow and p-38 a bit later.

 

In all defence the DXXI wasn't a bad aeroplane considering it was designed at roughly the same time as the Gloster Gladiator, Fiat GR.42, Mitsubishi A5M Claude, and all, by all accounts it wasn't a bad dogfighter if the thinking behind it was a few years out of date.

Avro Shackelton, essentially the final version of the Manchester-Lancaster-Lincoln-York line, finally retired by the RAF as late as the early 1990s. There's still at least one flying, I believe in South Africa.

XP-47N, possibly. A high-speed version, IIRC.

 

Yes, its experimental version of P-47. XP-47H is exact type. Powered by 2300 hp Chrysler XIV-2220-1 sixteen-cylinder inverted Vee liquid-cooled engine. First flown 26th of July 1945.

Maybe the FAIREY ALBACORE delivered to the Royal Navy in March 1940.
and the Gloster Gladiator for the RAF entered in the RAF in January 1937.
