Sgt. Culin's Hedge-Chopper invention significantly helped by allowing attacks across a bocage in multiple locations instead of having to wait for a bulldozer Sherman to make a path. Having limited avenues of attack is a recipe for disaster. Did it result in the Cobra breakout? Not at all, although it got them to the point of the breakout quicker and with a few less casualties. The book "Death Traps" gives July 22, 1944 as the date of the first group demonstration of the device. I'm sure it must have been tried on a few tanks before this, but after this demonstration they were assigned to put in on the tanks en masse.
Dupe, Well, that just looks EXACTLY like a T34 model 1940 to me????????? It has all the features of a T34 model 1940 including the early L-11 main gun and mantlet. That's a T34 model 1940. No doubt about it.
The gun is the old L/11 76.2mm gun the early T34s also had, which is shorter than the more commonly known F34 gun on later T34s. As far as I know the T34/76A and B both carried the old gun, like the KV1, KV1A and KV1B. From the T34/76C and the KV1C, both tanks carried the new F34 gun. Later versions that carried the ZIS-s-53 85mm gun were named after the gun itself, being the T34/85 and the KV-85.
Dupe, The L-11 gun that the T34 model 1940 carried WAS 'off'. It was inadequate, very small and was replaced by the bigger and better F-34 gun in the T34 model 1941. That caption is wrong. It is a T34 model 1940. I assure you.
sorry for how small the picture is but i allready knew about the l11 and f34 guns but utill i saw that foto t didn't notic that it was lower set in the turrent
The A-20 and A-30 was one wheel short of the T-34, but the T-32 ( I don´t know the A-32 so I´m not 100% sure we´re talking about the same tank ) was more or less identical to the early T-34. The T-32 served as a prototype for the T-34, and the early T-34 was only different in details and armour thickness.
JFC Yes, Russians stole T-34 from Germans and Americans at same time. They also stole KV 1 and 2, IS 1 , 2 and 3, in fact even BT was stolen and so was SU. They also stole all their airplanes, stole their machine guns and submachine guns. The red army in 1941 was armed with bows and spears. Where do you guys come up with this stuff? Don't answer, I know where. A. Hitler before war claimed that Russians are nation that wasn't capable to build a normal car, therefore technologically advanced Germans would have no problems defeating backwards Slavs. Correct? It is sad that Goebbels style propaganda is seeded so deep. If you really want to get deep into it and claim that design of suspension was American and therefore entire tank design is stolen, then I have to disappoint you, the wheen was invented on territory of modern France, therefore all the machines that utilise wheel are stolen from France. All of them. Now, the reason why Germans couldn't duplicate T-34 and had to build Panther was because they did not have sufficient technology to produce tank like that. Not because of "pride" of any kind.
Sarco - read the posts again. I would suggest that maybe you are reading things with a slight slant...
Re: JFC Whaaaaaaaaat? Are you for real? The Panther was INFINITELY more sophisticated and technically superior to the T34. That's why the Panther initially suffered so many teething problems. If anything, the Panther was over sophisticated for it's needs and it certainly totally outclassed the T34/76 and the later T34/85. The T34 came BEFORE the Panther. The Panther was influenced by it. By the time the Panther appeared in the summer of 1943 technology had moved on and the T34 was relegated mere cannon fodder for the new generation of German tanks like the Panther and the Tiger. Why do you think so many tens of thousand were destroyed if the T34 was so superior? The T34 was superior in 1941 and 1942 but no further than that although very few newer German tanks were around during the first half of 1943 so it also had an edge then.
Dear Lyndon. I am sorry to disappoint you, but Panther along with Tiger were shitty tanks. I can go to great lenths explaining why, but you will probably never understand or read the word I say, so I wont bother. Look at the facts, using "inferior" T IV, Germans made their greatest advancements in WW2. It was reliable, light "workhorse" of the German army. Yes, if came face to face with T-34 it would probably lose the duel, but sorry to once again disappoint you only fraction of tanks in WW2 were lost in tank vs tank duels. Now let's look at the switch to "superior" tanks. Somehow using inferior tanks Germany had its greatest success and as soon as they switched to superior ones they started losing badly. Does this tell you anything? At all? Once again.. using "bad" tank T - IV = great results, overwhelming success. Using "good" tanks T-V and TVI = defeat after defeat. Think about it on your spare time.
Sarco, I suggest you read the forum guidelines before you make any further comments. This is not the place for you if you can´t behave yourself.
