I was just about to say greatest comedic actors of all time: Charlie Chaplain, W.C. Fields, and Peter Sellers.

    I like:
John Wayne, Steve McQueen, Robert Duvall, Mel Gibson, Sean Connery, Anthony Hopkins, Patrick Stewart, Tom Selleck, Peter Sellers, Michael Caine, William Holden, Tom Hanks, Clint Eastwood, Spencer Tracy, Gary Cooper, Cary Grant, James Cagney, Richard Widmark, Burt Lancaster and a few others.

The best performance on film that remember seeing is Maximillian Schell (sp?) as the defense attorney in Trials At Nuremberg. BTW, Shanter is in that too. :D

I thought that Mel Gibson was great in Hamlet & Maverick. But lousy in everything else I've seen him in.

I like Pete Postlethwaite, John Hurt, Brian Cox & Alan Rickman.

I'd go for Jack Nicholson. There are so many good actors, but i like him the most.

I dont know; Jack Nicholson always plays a sort of villain  .
Sean Connery who is nominated a lot does mostly "quiet wise old man 8) "
The BEST actor is definitly the one that can play any character and make you believe he is that way always.

The worst would be much easier to find... I nominate Vin Diesel
if this gets a lot of replies i'll start new topic about that

I find Sean Connery most memorable for possibly the dodgiest accent in movie history in the Hunt for Red October, possibly the only other contender being Mel Gibson's Scots accent in Braveheart

Alan Rickman! Woohoo! :D I didn't know anyone actually knew this guy, seeing as he's always playing some evil or cynical background figure. I like him a lot.

Re: Maximilian Schell, he's definitely good actor when playing a Prussian aristocratic officer (A Bridge Too Far, The Iron Cross), but I've never really seen him play anything else. Wonder if he's any good outside his typecasted role.

Yes, Rickman is my favourite. He played the part of Prof. Snape in Harry Potter very well.

With all due respect, I don't even want to know he did that. Anything that has to do with Harry Potter is a black page in the life of all those involved.

I especially liked him in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (saved the whole movie by not having a rod up his rear like the other actors), Die Hard, Galaxy Quest...

I agree that the actors above are all exellent, but I'm surprised that noone has mentioned Humphrey Bogart or Judy Garland.
