For me the ARILOULALEELAY SKIFF, or maybe the SHOFIXTI SCOUT.
Remember the STAR CONTROL game? ;)

This is a bit off topic, but the favorite sci-fi AFV topic appears to have been deleted. I have discovered that the tanks that fought the Martians and were defeated in the classic science fiction thriller "The War of the Worlds" were none other than M4A3E8 Shermans! I was watching the movie again when I decided to get out my heavily illustrated tank book and finally solve a question which has puzzled me for many years. Lo and behold, it was the good old "Easy 8"; I had thought they were Pershings. You learn something new every day! ;)

It is also E8s that engage, and eventualy retreat, from Godzilla in the American version of "Godzilla vs. King Kong."

I had too - on all the posters for the film that I have seen they look like Pershings. Maybe I should watch the film...

Yes, you should. Once you see the tanks, and really *look* at them, that Sherman hull just leaps out at you. I saw that movie God knows how many times before I really took a good look at the tanks, and with a reference book handy. Once I made the discovery, I felt rather abashed.

Again, I didn't read all this yet, but Ok. In Star Wars, I have to go with the Nebulon B. It can duke it out with Sat Destroyers and do ok, especially with snub-fighter support. And it is designed to attack snub-fighter that raid Imperial convoys, so a squadron of TIE fighters are no problemo.

Star Trek I give the award to the Klingon Chancellor class ships. The are post DS9. They have a crap load of disrupters, several dozen photon and quantum torpedos, as well as 2,500 elite ground troops. The Kilngons built something like 13 of them in honor of the Chancellors, save Martok. Captain Klag pilots the I.K.S. Gorkon in the Book series I.K.S. Gorkon.

I will try to find pictures for the uneducated.

Here is the Nebulon B. I was unable to find the I.K.S. Gorkon, but it is shown on the cover of book 1, titled "a good day to die"

No mention of the Millenium Falcon?Insanity. It'll outrun anything in the Galaxy. Not to mention there are more than a few Panther parts involved in it's construction.

I have finally returned ( I lost the link for an eternity), and I must now say that the best starfighters ever in scifi, if used properly are the Corral Skippers!!!

The Corral Skippers are organic spaceships that are grown from corral by the Yuuzhan Vong. (They can be found in at least Jedi New Order 2-3) They shoot out less condensed plasma than the other starwars things, making them actually shoot out plasma like blobs, and although not possesing sheilds, they can create small blackholes to suck in enemy fire.

For being deadlier than a Tie Defender, they sure are cute :kill:

i am sorry, but i find those things to be soooooooo far off the map, even for Star Wars techno, that they are just stupid. Same thing with that ultra class ship. It would be so easy to dodge the shots from it because eventhing would be the size of an ant compared to it. The empire would soon learn the lesson that TRD beats big things, and the bigger the ship, the easier it is to hit it with TRD.

I never really believed in the efficiency of ultra-large space ships in war; they just form big targets, mostly, and are as manoeuverable as they look. The only thing that saves them from being destroyed like battleships were destroyed during WW2 by small airplanes, is their massive armament on all sides and the fact that they carry their own fighter squadrons. Meaning that their actual weapon is what they carry, not what they are, so that it seems more logical to develop better long-distance fighters than huge battle cruisers. And definitely not space ships the size of a small country.

A 260-kilometer spaceship would require a governor for the tail, the wings and the body sections. :D

Yea, ships above the size of superstardestroyers, can only effectively be used for ground support and scare tactics.
