mp-44?

How widely was the mp-44 used by the germans? I don't see many in pictures or videos, only in video games like medal of honer, call of duty, etc.

about the stg44 well they made i think sevral thousands of them but im not to sure oh and about callofduty the one thin thats wrong is that they use the stg44 in staligrad wich is a big historical boo boo

 

I don't have the production reports for the entire production run, but this is what I do have:
1944-11: 55,100
1944-12: 49,800
1945-01: 41,513 or 41,683*
1945-02: 34,300
1945-03: 48,633

* According to reports from Reichministerium für Rüstung und Kriegsproduktion dated 1945-02-08 and 1943-03-07 respectively

So in this time span, either 229,346 or 229,516 MP-44's were made.

 

Which troops were issued the stg 44?

 

All troops used them and by the end of the war the gun was becoming fairly common. There are many pictures of German soldiers carrying them, and numerous Stg44s can still be found in the hills of the Ardennes because their all-metal body doesn't just dissapear in time like the rifles will.

I have seen a picture of a couple of French children playing with a pile of abandoned (and all obviously broken!) German guns - mostly '98 Carbines, but a few Stg44s...

 

mp-44, only 200,000 made?? I am sure the number goes up if you include the earlier versions: mp-38, mp-42, etc...

 

Erm, MP-38 was submachinegun. MP-42 was apparently some sort of prototypegun or something like that, anyway it probably wasn't mass-produced.

 

Liang, the production numbers for only parts of the M.P. 44 production which I showed says more than 225,000 manufactured. In total, 406.476 M.P. 44s and 19.501 M.P. 43s were manufactured.

The M.P. 38 was a completely different weapon. I have heard of no M.P. 42.

The MP43 was initially known as the Maschinenkarabiner 42(H), perhaps this have led to some misunderstandings. The production figures would be the same anyway, as these were only two different names for the same gun.

With that kind of firepower, I can understand why.

 

I am still confused, is the MP-44 a submachine gun like the MP-38, or was it more like the Sturmgewere-43 assault rifle?

 

I think you're confused. The MP-44 is the StG-44, which was an assault rifle.

 

The assault rifles (firing the 7.92x33 Kurz cartridge) were knwon as the MKb.42, MP.43, MP.44 and StG.44 (the last three all basically being the same weapon).

Ah, that explains why i've seen this weapon in several museums in the Ardennes last week named the MP43. I thought this was a flaw.
