ähm, by the way how many soldiers lost the Red Army and the Waffen-SS in the Battle of Budapest ? I´ve read that the,

    Waffen-SS lost 30.000 men

    Red Army lost 80.000 men

    Is that correct?

    Regrads,
    Che.

Some data shows Red Army lost 320,082 (80,026 KIA) but it is the whole 108 days of battle of Budapest.
I doubt on number of Waffen-SS loss as only three SS division fought during the siege (one inside - 22nd Volunteer Cavalry Division, two outside - Totenkopf and Wiking SS tank divisions) the other divisons were "normal" Heer (mostly tank) divisions and some Hungarian unit.

lazlo , your maps seems to show the start of the 2nd ukrainian offensive
toward budapest , is this interpretation correct ?
as far as I know budapest was invested by christmas 44
operation conrad got shooting on new year day 45
following three weeks of ducking and weaving , totenkopf and wiking
stood , exhausted , 24 Km to the south of budapest , holding the door
ajar for the garnison to get out ,
mr hitler the gave orders to the SS to get back to their starting point
for the operation "spring awakening" , an all SS operation ,
budapest would be rescued later !!!!

ObGp gille brought his men back , with great dificulties .

budapest was taken by storm on the 16 of february , being fought over
block by block , the fighting being particulary vicious , the last stage
was the failure of a break out attempt , 782 germans made it back to
    their line .

" spring awakening" had not even started !
