I know there's many world war 2 games, but which had the most refrence to actual history and not some makeup idea to earn money
The worst of them is Battlefield 1942. If you're out there for historical accuracy, it might seem cool at first but it really isn't worth your dough.
Batlefield 1942 is a mockery of the war. There is a realism mod out there for it, but believe me; it ain't about realism.
My vote goes to Talonsoft and the Campaign System. WW2 east and west front on platoon level up to Divisional size engagements. While it has certain limitations it is the best I have seen, and is infinately better than Combat Mission (in my opinion). :smok:
Combat Mission: Operation Barbarossa, North Africa campaigns. Wow, what a lot of detail and realism. Close Combat 3 I still play today. Especially with the Real Red and Western Front MODS/patches. Some addictions cannot be overcome, like excellent games and fine coffee in the morning with friends. Cheers!
I can't wait for the new Combat Missions that are supposed to be out next year. They're using a new graphics engine that should combine more realistic graphics (everything looked stunning to me already except buildings and people) with their great combat systems. It appears the Brits may be taking the lead.........
In my experience, game manufacturers are not concerned with realism at all, and are usually not friedly to the idea of changing their information, even though it could be done easily. I did manage to corect Blitzkrieg, so that the Pz.Kpfw. III has six roadwheels, rather than the five it had in the betaversion
I would have to disagree about developers not caring about historical accuracy, go to www.totalsims.com ,, warbirds 2004 is the most historically accurate flight sim out ,theater specific planesets and terrain make it the best i have ever played. Fighters , bombers , gvs, object is to win the war,air war and ground war all in 1 game, rolling planesets come out in the order the actual planes were developed during the war. At totalsims.com they only emphasize on 100 percent realism. It is subscription based but only 13.95 per month, axis pitted against the allies dont get any better then that ,,,,,,, trymee
It does depend on the game/company. A bit like 'historical' films, really. Some bend over backwards to be accurate, some barely even try.
1). I would like to see the tank treads actaully move. 2). The people graphic lines to be smoother. 3). A time limit setting, for those of us with lives, to warn us of our own playing time restrictions; like before the sun comes up. Other than that I would like to see a better weather to soldier and equipment appearance. Ie. If it rains then we need to see mud on the tracks and the other graphics. You get the idea (I know that library would be huge but thats what I would like to see).
I had a look at that site, and looked at the Armoured Assault sim. Judging from the manuals, they can't even get the names right.
