    That surprises me David, I was sure it was a sneaky one as Tolkien wrote that he named Samwise Gamgee after his own neighbour Samson Gamgee in Sarehole, Warwickshire.

    Other than the Gaffer,I can't think of anyone else.Sam lived with the Gaffer,right?

    Sturm. You are correct. The Gamgee's lived in No.3 Bagshot row. A row of just three holes. So I want the name of the occupent of No.2.

    Sounds like something the Gaffer might have said. But I'm not sure why. Warrants further investigation, methinks.

    Correct. Bit sneaky that!
    He said it to Gaffer Gamgee and they were queer because they lived near the 'Old Forest'
