Kursk The thing that suprised me is the handful of photos with Stuarts in them, and atleast one with a Grant..very interesting to see. [ 23. June 2004, 01:20 AM: Message edited by: Leitung Panzer ]
Excellent pictures. I learned that mud can take out a tank as good as a shell can. The picture of the A-20 on page 6 is rare. I wonder if they really went to battle with their medals on ?
Some-one had to drive them.....at least they were speedy. Hopefully drawing the attention of the 88's.
The Grant or as the Russians called it... The Grave for Seven Brothers. Think I will stick with my Tiger...
HERE Curious: What is that bomber in the backround? It dosen't look like any Russian bomber I have ever seen, but it is definatly not German. Lend-Lease B-25...? HERE AGAIN And in this picture, I could swear that is a Stuka, but those landing gear look strangely retractable? Late version Stuka I didn't know about?
The first link would not work but the second link is a Stuka with it's wheel pants removed due to the muddy conditions and snow that would build up inside the pants or spats as some people call them and add lot's of weight to the aircraft. Stuka's did not have retractable gear but I read that the gear could be jettisoned by the pilot if he needed to make a belly landing in a rough field someplace. Making a wheel landing in a rough field would usually make a plane flip on it's back.
First one is a Douglas A-20, Lend Lease. Second one is a Ju87 with wheel spats removed to preclude mud build-up and ease maintenance, no more to it. Excellent photos, could do well with better captions!
Beat me to it... Yup its an A-20... Better captions???? Does it have any??? SOme fine pics though... make nice wallpaper.
I dunno, but there was a damn sight more Sht. than Stukas, and besides they had much better performance. Given the choice I wouldn't hesitate.
Another interesting site someone sent me to. http://www.gis.minsk.by/ironage/tanks/index.htm This in an interesting pic of a Tiger II. Three non penetrating hits on the glacis, but on the turret side you can even see through three of the holes, ergo roof blasted, and the hole calibres aren't too big, me thinks. Even the mythical beast can be beaten, it's a matter of circumstances. Tactics are circumstances you make up on your own No need to ask for a SU-100 when your target shows you a soft steel turret side
