That answer can differ depending upon where you are fighting, what kind of opposition you are up against as well as the type and model of tank you are in.
Looks-wise? T-34/76, no question. Better tank? Probably the very late model Shemans, with wet stowage etc etc
I like them both OK, I suppose, My favorite is the M-36B, Tank Destroyer, a 90 MM gun on an M4 chassis Another tank destroyer based on the proven M4 Sherman tank chassis. The M36 Jackson came into its own in mid-late-1944 when it was introduced into combat. Its arrival marked the end of the German's 88mm gun reigning supreme on the battlefield on the Western Front. The reason: the M36 Jackson had a redesigned turret which allowed it to mount the best American anti-tank gun of the war; the 90mm L/50 gun. It was able to deal with Tigers and Panthers in much the same manner that they could deal with American tanks; at long ranges with a high-velocity main gun. It was a great boost to the ability of the Americans to destroy German tanks. It had sufficient speed for its job. The M36 Jackson improved on the M10 and M18 in armor protection, but was still not on par with German heavies stopping this tank buster from overtaking the #2 spot. Or the M-18 The M18 Hellcat was, unlike all other American tank destroyers of the war, a completely new design unto itself. It mounted the same 76 L/54 gun of the later M4 Sherman tanks which had comparable performance to the guns of the Panzer-IVtanks which it encountered. It saw action shortly after the Normandy landings and fought on through the rest of the war. It was a rugged vehicle that was very reliable. It can also lay claim to being the fastest armored vehicle of the entire war, with an amazing top speed of just under 50 mph. This speed didn't come without a price, however. It was very thinly armored to allow for a high power to weight ratio giving it its speed. This lack of armor keeps the Hellcat from claiming a higher spot among the top 10 tank destroyers. The fifty (83kph) mph speed could be broken by removing the govenor, a device to limit engine rpm to 3000. At 5000 rpm it would go much faster than 100 kph.. zooming http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/3120/td.html
The question is not complete, I think. It would sound better, if you ask which kind of T-34 you mean. I would vote definitively for T-34/85, Sherman would be on the 2nd place and T-34/76 right beside it.
Well then what would you choose? The robust Toaster-34? Personally I prefer the looks of the T34-85 over those of the Sherman, so you could say the Russian tank is my favourite. However, if I had to choose one to fight in, I'd definitely want to be in an Easy Eight.
Yeurk! With that bulbous turret? no way! The T-34/76 looks much better proportioned... (I love debating personal tastes - we're both right! )
Out of only those two? I'd say T34's. I also like the fact that at one stage during the war, the Russians were pumping out over 2000 tanks a month, lots of T-34's 2000 go like this: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: (but 2000 times  ) Tomba
The T34/76 is to my mind a true design classic ,looks good from any angle, pity about the two man turret though!
