Thanks Che. Putting ones self in the Germany of 1944 when all the services were facing such horrendous casualties its hard to imagine the German high command keeping the submarines in port out of fear of casualties. They did the best they could for them, shnorkals, radar defenses, better torpedoes...ect

That "they died for nothing" could be said of every German sailor, airman, or soldier. They were a threat to the end of the war but the true "attack submarines" that would have gave them a fighting chance came to late and to few.

Radar and air power doomed the German submarines.

On the other side of the world, with the Japanese effort. Both in deployment of their submarines and defending against the Yank fleet boats??? The Japanese fought with a stupidity that has seldom been seen in warfare. Boy, were they stupid!

My remarks were directed at their destruction of their own fine submarine force. They had good boats, a great torpedo, and absolutely no clue on how to use them effectively.

Their anti-submarine tactics were also ridiculous. Its almost as though they sent their merchant marine out on its own to get slaughtered on purpose.

Perhaps, although sometimes it is necessary. But my point is that it isn't funny.
