Awsome! I drive through there quite regularly (en route to Napanee of course.) We should meet up some time or something (eh, maybe not might be kinda strange :lol: )

 

In my experience, meeting up with forum members is awesome. If you can arrange it, it's always worth it.

 

No dude, I'm sorry, I don't racially profile people. The sad truth is that if you are a contractor and need some cheap labor, you can go to gas stations on the southern parts of town and find Illegal Immigrants in droves. In fact, if you are a construction boss/worker, or a lawyer, or a supermarket owner, you need to know Spanish. Roughly 1/16 to 1/8 of the people living in houston CAN'T SPEAK ENGLISH, or speak broken English, becasue they are from south of the border, and you are right, they are not all from Mexico, but the majority are. As I stated earlier, whites no longer a majority in Houston. And hey, the only problems I have with anyone over here that is from another country is whether they are legal and can speak English. Case in point; my mom hired a cleaning crew 2 years ago to come every 2 weeks to dust, mop, sweep, and wash the windows. It is a roughly 50 year-old woman and her family. She and her husband are illegal immigrants, but their children were born here, making them U.S. citizens automaticly. They are good people and every time they come by we welcome them and give them drinks and food. The only problem I have with them is that the mother can't speak English and thus we have to get her kids to translate for us, and that the parents are illegal. Thats ALL. Besides, I have quite a few Hispanic friends and they are all really cool, one is half-black and half-Mexican, he calls himself a Blacxican! lol

Home of Indiana University... Ernie Pyle, the famous WW2 war correspondent went to school here. Our Journalism building is named in his honor.

Heart of the Indiana limestone industry, Indiana limestone was used to build both the Empire State Building... and the Pentagon to name but a few.
Limestone quarries and skinny-dipping. Oh, those were the days. For an interesting insight into Bloomington in the late 1970s see the movie "Breaking Away." Yes, it's Hollywood, but the footage shows how my town looked during that era... when I was a youngster in my 20s.

Hoosier is a nickname for Indiana. If you are from Indiana, then you would call yourself a Hoosier.

Trouble is, just what is an Englishman ? Is a Sikh born in England an Englishman ? Or an Irishman, or whatever ? If being born in England is the definition, then that sweeps in an awful lot of people. As for myself, although I have dual nationality with another country, I was born in England of two English parents, both of whom can trace their ancestry back hundreds of years back to 1540 in my Mother's case ). My wife's family can go back even further. Speaking personally, I'd happily settle for that as a good definition of being English, but would love to hear contrary views.

Nope, too expensive for me. Besides I already know my ancestry. On my mother's side I am English, from Kent. The first ancestor on my mother's side to arrive on American soil was with the second wave of immigrants to the Jamestown colony in 1610. On my Father's side I am Scots-Irish. Been here since before the American Revolution.

On my dads side the family is from Cork County, Ireland

On my moms side the family is part french, part scottish. The scotts came over early in the 20th century, and my scottish great-grandfather was a tailor in the Royal navy before he came over.

Many years ago, before every one had a computer,one of my young cousins (older than most of you!) and his dad, ex 13/18th Hussars veteran started on a family tree, went all over the country, church records, burials etc. Very interesting stuff, can't find out how one of great aunts died in childbirth in Bangkok in 1904!! Orv even what she was doing there.
Most interesting to me is that one of my ancestors rode with Cromwells cavalry at Edgehill and Naseby!
