    I posted a new riddle this morning...but it's gone!?

So here is a new one:

General Gasslefield, accused of high treason, is sentenced to death by the court-martial. He is allowed to make a final statement, after which he will be shot if the statement is false or will be hung if the statement is true. Gasslefield makes his final statement and is released.

    What was his statement?

    Is it this?

Because that is still there, and has some answers.

To your Gasslefield riddle - is it
    "I will be shot"

    My turn

One day a painter is hired to paint a window. The window is in the shape
of a perfect square, and is 4 feet from bottom to top and 4 feet
from side to side. At the end of the day, he has painted exactly
half of the window. Yet, the unpainted part is still in the shape of a perfect
square, and is 4 feet from bottom to top, and 4 feet from side to side. How is this possible?

Note: The answer is not that he painted one side of the window and not the other, or that he used see through paint *gasp*

He started at the middle of window and painted half of it, so there is painted square in the middle of window.

He is painting a picture of the window. No paint got on the actual window.

sounds quite right to me, except that it should be the other way around; he painted a square in the center so the other rim would still be an unpainted hollow square with the same size.
    something like this
    ______
    | ____ |
    | | | |
    | |___| |
    |_____|
Not very straight lines but I think you get the idea; outer square unpainted and original size, inner square half the surface of the window and painted.

Edit; hmm lines are rather straight in edit window, but screwed up in post.
Hope you still get the picture

Should I point out that he will be painting the window frame, not the actual window itself. Which would still mean that Notmi's quess it correct, but that he has just painted the framework within the border of the window, and not the external frame.

So basicly a combination of Notmi's answer and mine?
He did paint a smaller square inside, but the frame, not window(I already thought it odd), and it was the smaller square that was painted and the larger one unpainted?
Let Notmi have it, he got the idea really, I just corrected it.

D'oh! never mind me I completely mixed up Notmi and Me262 for some reason.

If no-one wants to submit a riddle, I have one ready. But I recognise the fact that I have not earned the right to post it.

Currently, no one has got the correct answer. I apolagize that I did not make it clear he was only painting the window, and painted half of that window (the glass), and that there was no frame except for the wall (or whatever was supporting it). I am also talking about that if you were to view it, half of it is painted exactly. Also, when I meant it was an exact square, I meant 4 lines, all the same size. If you were to paint a smaller square inside you would get 8 lines ( becuase if we were to cut the painted part of the window out, the unpainted part would not be an exact square, with 8 lines and 8 vertices.) Anyways, I am very sorry about the confusion, and becuase of this, I will give a hint:

The unpainted part is not 4X4, It is 4 feet from top to bottom, 4 feet from side to side .

Also, you have 4 more guesses before I release the answer.

Getting confused now, 8 lines and 8 vertices?, and it would not be a square?
Also just to get it straight the surface of the window is 16 square feet and the afterwards unpainted surface is 16 square feet?
.....Beats me, dont see how that could be possible.
Unless it rained somewhere between him finishing painting and the viewer looking for the unpainted part?

I think David got it :).

The window when unpainted was 4x4 feet.
    The answer:
But the painter was assigned to paint all 4 corners of the square, so the unpainted part was a diamond. The top point to the bottom point is 4 feet, and the side point to the side point is 4 feet (across the middle). So, there was a diamond (which can also be a square tilted), in the middle. It was 2x2x2x2, but if you measured from the top point to the bottom, and side point to the other side point, its 4 feet from top to bottom, 4 feet to side to side.

So, I think it is David's turn

I know that this explaination is confusing for some, but It is the only way to describe it without using pictures.
