Assume you are Hitler (i don't mean to offend anyone, just Hitler was the deciding man in this situation).

It is mid-1942. The war is going fairly well. France has long since been defeated, Britain seems to be ready to fall, although the RAF continues to bomb your cities, Russia, you assume, is just one swift move from falling, and the Afrikakorps has the British 8th Army with their back against the wall. Rommel, commander of the Afrikakorps, is basically begging for reinforcements, while, in view of the recent Russian counter-offensive during the winter and the plans you have laid for the coming months, the Eastern Front needs reinforcements as well. And the Italians are looking for your permission to invade Malta with an amalgam of German and Italian amphibious forces. What do you do for each situation?

Well, you could decide to focus on the Med - take Malta, pump troops into Africa and take Egypt, pushing through to the Middle East and the British-held Oil-producing areas.

You could even subsequently use Palestine as a dumping ground for the Jews, thus answering the 'Jewish Problem' without having to go to all the effort of kiling them.

Spend the year out east building up the logistics infastructure, eliminating partisans, and (hopefully) defeating the Soviet counter-attacks.
If you can spare any forces, attack southwards to link up with the troops in the Middle East.

All options are given as though the opinions of Hitler, not mine.

Obvious problem - this strategy gives the Soviets time to build up a large, well-equipped army opposite yours out East, which is a bad idea.

(Basically, whatever you choose to do is wrong, Germany did not have the resources)

I was thinking of a quick thrust through Turkey, but that would only require more tanks and more aircraft and more men, which, frankly enough, the Wehrmacht could barely afford to expend.

i think that Hitlers biggest mistake was that he didn't gave the plans of german tanks, cannons and planes to his allies. if his allies had the same equipment like the germans, the whermacht (and i mean german army + italian army + hungarian,...) would be thougher to defait
