    Good news.

Peter (I butcher books to make my films) Jackson, will not be involved in the making of the film of JRR Tolkein's children's classic, & LOTR prequel: "The Hobbit".

Sadly, the reasons quoted were financial & economical, not aesthetic.
Hopefully, whoever the director is to be, he will resist the temptation to add bits of his own creation.

Long live films that honour books & retain their integrity. Down with films 'based' on upon books.

LOTR wasn't all that far off from the books, can't say the same for King Kong.....only 'cause I never saw it.

Be interesting who the get as Gandalf if Ian Mckellen (buggery spelling!) doesn't want to do it....

What he added to the movies made it better.

I really had no arguments with the Ring Trilogy. I honestly wouldn't mind at all if the same crew did The Hobbit. Actors, director, extras, artisans, the whole gang!

Yeah, the LOTR movies were great. Mind you, I haven't read the books.

I haven't read the books either.......

I saw the first film and I was absolutely enchanted with the start in the village....I loved it.....then the Hobbits left the village and it was downhill from there for me.

Aragon (?) looked like he needed a good hot bath and Orlando Bloom in a blond wig.....what was that all about?

I liked the ivy leaf broches they had on their cloaks though....very nice!

Sorry, girly point of view. :D

I found Gollum/Smeagol a little less 'evil' then I had pictured. And my grandmother both agree that the hobbits should have had more hair on thier foots. ('ProudFEET!')

Hey! I've never been to Philadelphia in my life!

I suppose just 'cuz Tolkein wuz English, yer English, I'm not, and mosta the actors spoke with English accents, yer more qualified to judge the movie? ;)

Do you remember the animated version of LOTR that came out back in the '70s? Compared to that, this one was phenomenal!!!

Are you kidding, I loved the 70's cartoon! True it wasnt as spectacular as the newest films but I still thought it was great... Wow, what a blast from the past

I would have like to see them do a 'The Hobbit' movie... as long as they kept it more like FOTR, which was the best film. I didn't enjoy the most recent ROTK... If I wanted to see non-stop computer animated fighting I'd play a video game dammit (or watch the new Star Wars films :D ) The first movie however, was excellent... second was very good too... Third, pah... Even the old cartoon was better

Yes, I have that on DVD too.

About Jackson and LOTR-trilogy: Yes, there are differences bethween book and films. Some of them made film more enjoyable (honestly, how many of you would have wanted to see two hours of Frodo, Sam and Gollum wandering on swamps?). Of many book filmatisations I've seen, this is one of the best.

Would you have liked the film to contain about 17 hours of meandering saga-style song?

I agree with Notmi that it was a good adaption of the book.

Appart from being permanently traumatised by the appearance of the elves at Helms Deep I thought the films were superb.

PS. There's one tried and tested way to deal with Philistines.

(the BC version of an RPG against an MBT).

I loved the jab they made at ROTK in "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang".

"No, don't worry, we've all seen Return of the King, we're not going to end this 17 times."
