Operation Wacht am Rhein, also known as Operation Herbstnebel, also known as the Von Rundstedt Offensive (in French-speaking countries only), also known as the Battle of the Bulge: the Ardennes Offensive.

I'm not sure that favourite is the right word for miliatry stuff but the one that should impress everyone most in terms of scale, scope, planning, exceution etc has to be Overlord - nothing else comes close.

    Fair comment.

The American show was also partly British too - a lot of the naval and landing contribution and the Mulberry harbours & facilities & logistics & air cover back in blighty.

Operation Overlord - the idea of holding a village by using paratroopers is ingenious. Market Garden is second...

Pearl Harbour, Midway, Normandy, I don't know. The Channel Dash made by Scharnhorst, Gneiseau (or how you spell it), Prinz Eugen and a few other German ships was interesting.

    War tends to be... ;)

Panzerkampfwagen: it's interesting that you should mention the airborne, because the whole concept of airborne divisions was more or less abandoned after WW2 until the invention of usable troop helicopters. Airborne operations were considered too risky and too costly, to which the huge casualty rates of airborne units during WW2 testifies. Massacres like the German landings on Crete and the British landing during Market are obvious examples.
