Hate to resurrect this thread, but I've been thinking alot about this again. Especially since I saw a book called T-34 Mythical Weapon, which describes every piece of the tank with over 880 photos, scale drawings, and the like. Which I think I'm going to have to buy.

But that led me to this question, would it even be legal? Does Russia own the design for it, or since they were communist no one really owns it? And would it even be legal to have a tank in your yard to drive around (I know it isn't street legal), would a permit or some such be necessary?

first of all, answer these questions:
do you have plenty of money?
    are you a skilled handyman?
    a good welder?
    a mechanic?
    an electrician?
do you have the facilities appropriated for such task?
a good supplier for such task, for the 32 tons of steel?
and last but not least: why?

Of course I don't have any of that. I'm just curious if it's possible at all.

I'm doing some rough computations to see around how much it would cost,

Using a T-34/76 A or B model for an example.
Steel sells for somewhere around $400 per ton, the tank weighs 26-28 tons depending on the source.
    $11,200 right there.

Labor costs for actually constructing the pieces. Saying you have two people working for $25 an hour, with something ranging form 1,000-2,000 man hours of construction time. I'll use 1,000 man hours
    $50,000

The custom work required to make all the various parts, at least $20,000 probably more

Total cost- $81,200 (minimum)- $151,000 (hopefully highest)

I factored in the extra 70,000 for things I missed or was completley wrong on.

Well Crazythumbs, you could use the basic rule of project estimating. Carefully and pains takingly analyze everything to arrive at a cost and then mulitply by ten
or you could make a WAG (which is basically what you've already done)and then multiply by ten.

Both methods are about as accurate.
