Hi guys, I visited germany last week, and when I was in Essen (in the Ruhr area) my attention was suddenly attracted to a noise in the sky. When I looked up, I could see the typical 3-engine & pointy whing-shape of a Junkers Ju 52! Ofcourse the beauty was long gone before I managed to pull my camera. Does anyone know anything about this (apparently) still flying ww2 plane? I sure hope somebody does! greets, PP
They were used by Lufthansa (sp?) as passenger carriers much like the C-47 was also the DC-3. It could be a surviving civilian aircraft.
SwissAir also used them for quite some time.Five or six years ago I saw one flying around Chicago.I was thoroughly surprised to see it.
Lufthansa does indeed operate a Ju-52 as part of their history: https://www.dlbs.de/0index.asp I nearly got a flight on it in 1992, they were taking delivery of their first plane from us and brought the Ju-52 over for publicity. I got a chance for a close up inspection. There was a raffle for our employees to get a flight around Montreal. One of my group won, unfortunately the guy the least interested in old airplanes. His comments were that it was nosiy and bumpy.
