You mean plastic-fantascic? As it was made from plastic it was easy to repair if you had a crash (just a little glue here and a bit there...) and lasted forever ( it didn't rust and you couldn't sell i.e. get rid of it...). Ah Trabi jokes how we miss them :D

Lada on the other hand was obviously built with experiances gained in tank production ( we bought Lada 1600 in 1979). Where western cars had 1mm of sheet steel Lada had at least 2mm and it was realy good for driving in snow (if you had 50kg of cement or similar weight in the trunk). And god help unfortunate Katra (Renaoult 4) driver if you hit him (as i said built like a tank  ).
Yugo on the other hand was a usefull litlle car but otherwise a piece of junk.
While speaking of Yugo check this out ( it takes a while to load so either you save it on computer and run from ther or open in new window):

If you think your dignity can be bought and sold with the car you drive, move to Germany. There at least it is perfectly normal to put yourself and your family in debt to make sure you can drive a car that will make the neighbours jealous. :-?

the jeep was a terrible killer of us troops even in peacetime ,most often by rollover , which the jeep was prone to do at even at a very low speed loss of control , no seat belts no roll cage ..and a low speed collision was also often fatal ...the hummer ,because of its low center and wide stance is almost impossible to roll over and is ten times safer than the much beloved willys , also the hummer will out perform the jeep on any off road course hands down....

Wrong. It was not illegal to be a Communist in the US. Apparently you have never heard of Gus Hall the leader of the Communist Party USA. He ran for president four times.
It was illegal to lie under oath to a congressional committee or to advocate the violent overthrow of the government but it was not then and is not now illegal to be a Communist.
    Stupid? yes.
    Illegal? no.
    :D

Nah, I'm pro-freedom of speech. If they want to broadcast their naive stupidity it is OK with me.

The Rosenbergs were guilty of espionage and the Verona project where Russian cables were intercepted and broken confirmed their guilt. They weren't executed for being Communists they were executed (appropriately IMO) for betraying their country and passing military secrets to the Russians.

You still have some left-wing types who still wail and gnash their teeth over what happened to the Rosenbergs; Alger Hiss, too, for that matter.

    .
The Rosenbergs didn't give the atomic bomb to Stalin , the soviets had enough brains to make one , however the data supplied by them confirmed some numbers and invalidated some other ,in particular the degree of enrichment needed , it turned out the soviet number was too high , which was a big waste of effort
the basic shape used by the soviet was in fact a different design
There is no way the soviets would have trusted a single information source
    especially from a traitor

    in answers to Ricky
" If I remember correctly, Jehovah's Witnesses have much the same view. They were repressed quite harshly by the Nazis for some reason... "

The German branch of the Jehovah witnesses totally refused to help the war effort and were incredibly stubborn about it ,
they ended up in concentration camps rather than sign a vague paper with the promises not to be bothered ,
Quite a few were tortured to death with no noticeable modification of their position , mothers abandoned their children rather than compromise ,
in the camps they were notorious for their intransigence , after a while the SS guards used the women as nannies for taking care of their own kids , for they would never hurt anyone , Himmler in a speech praised them for their unblinking fanaticism and gave them as example of for his SS !

after the war , the very few who had signed the paper to take care of the kids and orphans were rejected by the rest including the mothers of the kids ,
