of course they did, the mafia hated Mussolini as he restricted there business. As for the Germans later on, well they were an invading force.

They only did it for their own selfish reasons though, nothing to do with national pride

Did they? Can you tell me which programme of mass-extermination the Mafia started and how many millions of people were killed in that programme and when the Mafia invaded a country, starting a war that killed around 25 million of that country's population?

Mussolini all but eradicated the Mafia, so of course they were willing to help defeat him. As for the Allies, they got an organised and (largely) mole-proof resistance network.

Mind you, after 1945 they discovered that your enemy's enemy is not necessarily your friend...

Which is what happens when you forget the old adage: The enemy of my enemy, is my enemies enemy, no more, no less.

Didn't the allies dropped pamflets above Sicily, asking the Maffia to aid at the invasion?

I read a book called Return Ticket, about a British paratrooper who was caught by the Italians, and he said the general idea in Italy at the time was that you would only become a paratroop if you were sentenced to death as a criminal, because they thought that no ordinary person would want to jump out of an airplane! :D
