I am trying to unravel my father's story, since he is passed on, I don't have him to ask questions of his service. i do have this pic (for now) of him, so trying to start with deciphering the insignias/patches on his uniform. I do know he was in WW2 and the Korean. I'd heard stories he was a Seabee but so far no proof of that. I do have pics (in NY storage..I'm in CO) of him on a ship out at sea. Is someone out there knowledgeable enough to help provide some answers. Thank you in advance.
Welcome to the Forum, MzAutumn. Post the picture you have and we'll do our best. It would also be helpful if you could provide his name.
Oh, I'm sorry, I thought I had deleted this because I couldn't figure out how to add the picture. I see thre is now an 'upload' button on here, so I will attach the pic. If you need it larger, let me know and I will do so. Thank You!!
Probably taken during his time in Korea. 2nd Infantry Division patch on his shoulder. Revised rank insignia for combat troops(1948-51), rank of corporal. Are those jump wings on his left breast? Taken in front of a truck - Headquarters and supply company - "H/S" on the front fender.
Here are the Glider wings. I think Bobby is correct. McAutumn, if you'll give us his name we can do some further research.
OH wow. I sure know more about my dad now than before. So definitely he was in the Army then, correct? No way would he have been a Seabee. Since his initials were 'CB', he told my mom that had to do with the ribbing he took cuz of the name Seabees. Can't figure that one out. Maybe you guys would know best how you all played around w/ one another then. What about pics I have of him on ships out in the ocean? Would an Army man be on a ship? Could that tie in anywhere? Is there possibility he could have been both at some point? I will hope to get those pics out of storage from NY soon and also did put in a call to his one surviving sister out of about 7 or 8 siblings. I thank you all so much for your help and enlightenment!! Oh TD-Tommy you asked his name... Sgt. Carlos Beltran dob: 1918. The 'Sgt' part I do know for sure that's where some confusion comes in. Thanks again and hope you enjoyed Memorial Day.
If the picture comes from the Korean War, it's possible (but I don't think it's likely) that he was in the Navy in WW2. As for the picture on the ship, if he was in transit to theater he would have had to go by ship. His initials might have a lot to do with his association with the Seabees. Family lore is not always accurate.
Wow lots to think about. All this time I've been collecting 'Seabee' patches and such because of my mother telling me they use to refer to me as their 'little' seabee! Sad that some history is lost when our loved ones are gone. Thank you again! I will be in touch again once I get more pics.
I know that interservice rivalry has always been around...a soldier would definitely get some friendly ribbing for having initials sounding like "Seabee." As far as his being on a ship, soldiers mostly traveled by ship when they were sent overseas. When you get those pictures, please post them...they are definitely worth a thousand words! -Ranger Clapp
TY Ranger Clapp. You're right on that point! And of course you would know best what it's like. Again, my thanks!
I can't find a Carlos Beltran born in 1918. The closest I can find is from 1920. Do you know what state he came from? How about his parent's names?
Thanks for looking. He was born in Arizona. Parents Joe or Jose Beltran and mother Manuela Grijalva. I have their records somewhere on my laptop.
