Requesting clarification of gramps original unit

This page is the only surviving record from National Archives, gramps got several campaign medals in North Africa and Italy and an arrowhead for them, as well as good conduct and honorable service. I've blown up his arm of service and unit pictures for ease of reading, they're still in poor condition. Anyone know what unit or squad or regiment this is?

The quality is garbage I didn't even get the cover page from the Army like others have, the 1972 Archives fire took much. His serial number is 34202818 conformable with NPRC and Nat Archives.

It looks like 51/61/81st CAV Reg 52 but I can find barely anything on this unit and it's troops

Also under campaign citations it says Good Cond, honorable service, then some garbage I can't make out like.. inforanas very arrowhead(arrowhead being an assault award on campaign cluster) other than that, I can't make it out. If you guys have more info, that'd be great.

 

Drew, Could you make it a bit smaller so we can see the entire document? If I could see all the campaigns listed it might be possible to match them to what Cav Regiment was involved, I'm not sold on it being the 81st. I can see Troop (?) and then (?) Cav Reg
He was definitely in Italy.

 

Upon return, men were told to have a copy of their separation papers recorded at their local courthouse. You most likely can get a good copy there.

 

The courthouse is a good idea. Another is the cemetery where he is buried. If he was given a military service the cemetery would have a copy of his separation papers to be able to get the brass memorial from the VA. The VA is another source that might have some of his records.

 

Yeah I've tried all that except going to his cemetary, he's buried in a baptist church in milligan. That copy is as good as it gets so far. VA doesn't even have it. I'll give the church a try

 

Could be "Troop D 81st Cav Rcn Sq? They were part of the 1st AD (originally 81st Armd Rcn Bn and redes CRS 20 Jul 44 in Italy) and the campaign credits, we can see, match up. Shelby's OOB indicates they were also credited w/Anzio.
The 91st CRS would work if the Sicily campaign is in the list?

 

Natman, I think you nailed it. Stantion even uses the 81st Cav Recon as an example on page 320. The arrowhead credit would be for Anzio.

 

I didn't even see that example. Thanks for pointing it out. I need to look at the forest and not just a tree!!
