When I was fourteen I was trained by a one-legged Marine who taught me first thing the parts of a round. He wanted someone to shoot with his son when he couldn't get out. (Frank and I were in the same class in high school.) I still hear Gunny's voice when I think about small arms.
This is interesting and all that but I wonder what the OAPF would amount to? You know, the Over All Pucker Factor. We have ten thousand men flying at roughly 25,000 feet, minus 60 degrees - probably colder, hundreds of crazy basta#ds trying to shoot them down and all they can do is float through the air. It'd take the common man a month to loosen up enough to ....... well you know. Hard to quantify something like that but now you know what I think about. And a good reason why they are called the Greatest Generation. In one mission these guys could have dropped their balls on Berlin and obliterated Germany.
I watch some nice young men chucking Hell at a spot one time. Herky bird, buncha Hueys with various toy on board, and five boats with three .50s each, all laying down on one spot. Chewed it up some.
Yeah, like I told a group of National Guardsmen at a welcome home ceremony in 2004 , WW2 is known as the greatest generation but I was standing amongst this Generations Greatest. Thankfully there are always those few who stand up for those who can't or won't.
